I recently purchased a new mobo, CPU, RAM. After i had everything in its place I tried booting it up but It wouldn't boot. I kept resetting it for a few times but nothing happened, no POST, no beeps, nothing. So i left it running for a few minutes(I had to go use the restroom ) , and as i was walking back to my room I hear a *BEEP*. Just what i thought it was, the POST. I was about to go into the BIOS when suddenly the monitor started flickering(just like when you're getting interference on your tv) then it just went black. I have a feeling it's the PSU but i'm not sure. I don't get any type of beeps or anything. BTW, the PSU is two years old, i don't know if this is important. Specs: PSU-550watt ultra. I thinks it's thermaltake. It should be pretty good quality as I payed $200 back in 2006. CPU-Athlon 4800 dual core MoBo-XFX 750a SLI AM2+ RAM- 2 X 1GB PC28500 (DDR2 1066) Crucial Ballistix Other Hardware: SATA HDD, DVD. More details: the leds on the mobo do light up. all fans run fine.
I would try taking out a stick of ram and trying again, and if that fails put it back in and take out the other. if it successfully boots then you know that you have a bad stick of ram. you could also try a different power supply. so just keep swapping out parts until you can figure out which one is bad.
What Graphics card are you using? Run the tests on the RAM like krj says, then reseat (unplug and plug back in) the graphics card too to check. If still no luck consider replacing the PSU.
Oh I did try switching the ram but nothing happened. My best guess is that something's wrong with the psu. The only part I haven't tested is the PSU but I don't have a compatilble PSU with my motherboard. Today I'm going to buy a new psu and hopefuly i'll get it going. BTW, I have Visiontek 4850 but I didn't use it to boot the computer as the motherboard comes with an 8200gs. PS, what's the probability of the two sticks of ram being dead? Does it have something to do with the speed of the ram? srry i have so many questions.
Here is a common problem overlooker when installing the mobo. Many times the power connector for the CPU gets overlooked. Be sure that all of the connectors are installed on the motherboard and refer to the motherboard manual.
If there was no POST at all, I'd say check that, but given something does happen, it's more likely to be a faulty component.
Giving the fact that there is a new PSU on the way, I guess we need to wait and see if this corrects the problem. This sounds like a typical case of starting with the basics from the install and trying to eliminate the faulty component.
