    Hi,

New to all this, but i have researched this site before posting.

I have what appears to be 2 clone Starview box. they both have the latest codes on them as i have checked them from this site. The problem is with 1 of the boxes only. Every 30 minutes it comes up "bad signal" and screen goes blank for about 1 minute then comes back on again.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

ou will need to know if you have a clone or genuine

    Count the vents on top

    18x7 = Clone
    25x7 = Genuine

Also you can go here to see some pics

    Hi,

I have 2 boxes from Ebay:

Box that keeps going to bad signal is:

    18x7 vents
    API ver 3.0

The other is ok for now, this one is:

    18x7 vents
    ApI ver 2.57

I didn't know about clones before i bought them, is there anything i can do with the version 3 box?

    Thanks for anymore help.

Are you sure they are clones ?

You will need a null modem cable DB9F to DB9F.

    Null modem info

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6

If your pc does not have a serial port you will need a USB to serial port adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable.

    USB Adapter info

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx...t10&doy=search&MenuName=USB to Serial Adaptor

These two cable links are only for reference as they can be purchased alot cheaper on fleabay.

All firmware/loader can be found in the link at the end of my post marked Eamos Library.

You will need the GTromloader, (Starview Software Uploader), found in the Starview software folder of the link.

You will need version 4.00 firmware for GENUINES found in "Starvi*w" firmware folder.
You will need version 2.57_FIXED firmware for CLONES found in "Starvi*w" firmware folder.

And please download the Starview PDF guide,(similar instructions, this will give you step by step instructions on how to do everything. This can be found in the Starview Documentation folder in the link.

Thanks for the info, i will download the doc and take a look before i purchase the cables.

By looking at the vents they appear to be clones. The remote is a new one though. I will take the cover off and check the boards for further clarification before i proceed.

Thanks again for all your help everyone.

You will need the cables anyway to update your b0xes to the latest firmware

    Thanks Celtic, really helpful.

Just one last thing. I have just bought a usb to serial cable as i dont have a serial port on my laptop. Am i wrong in thinking that i now dont need a Null modem cable?, if i do where does it fit?

The info document only makes reference to one cable.

    Thanks again.

You will need the NULL MODEM CABLE to work in conjunction with the USB to Serial Adapter

Plug the USB Adapter into your laptaop and then the NULL MODEM CABLE into the USB Adapter and the Starvi*w box :)

    Sorted.

Altered my port setting in device manager to com 4, updated and working, now showing ver 2.57 and not cut out as yet.

    Thanks for everything.
