I am brand new to this, so thanks in advance for any help you can give. I am trying to back up BOB and, so far, I got disc 2 to work with DVD Shrink by itself. Disc 1, however, gives me the following error:
    DVD Shrink 3.2
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
    Failed to read file 'D:\'
    The parameter is incorrect

Taking advice from some of the other threads on this site, I have tried using DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD, to no avail. DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 gives the following error on it's autorun:
    I/O error
    Device: [0:0:0] Sony DVD-ROM DDU1615 FD51 (D:) (ATA)

    ScsiStatus: 0x02
    Interpretation: Check Condition

    CDB: 28 00 00 37 88 04 00 00 01 00
    Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector: 3639300

    Sense Area: 28 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 21 00 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: Logical block address out of range

If I close the error and manually start the decryption, it gets to 90% and gives a similar error (various error messages have different sector numbers on the interpretation for CDB. If I abort it gives error messages advising no decryption key found for 'VTS_01_7.VOB' (as an example) and asking if I would like to get a decrypter key from another file in the same VTS set. AnyDVD 5.9.4.1 also gets to 90% complete and gives a read error. If I ignore read errors it goes to 92% and displays error "couldn't read m_data". Both AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter will save the first episode (of 2 per disc) to the HDD but doesn't do anything with the second and says they are complete. When I try to open the files in DVD Shrink it gives an error about Invalid DVD navigation structure. Sorry the post is so large but I want to be thourough. After taking advice from even more threads, I downloaded and tried to use DVDFAB and VobBlanker but DVDFAB gives an error message right off the bat. I have used my copy of disc 1 and a friend's so I don't think it is an issue with the quality or cleanliness of the original source.

I used AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 to do my Band of brothers disc. All them worked fine so it can be backed up. Like above make sure it is clean and scratch free and try using CloneDVD2 with anyDVD. If you still have a problem it could be a bad press.

I had no problems backing up all of my Band of brothers discs, and I merely used DVDShrink, alone, with no other aids or add-ons. These discs do not have any of the newer, tough forms of copy protection on them.

As the others have said above, the error messages that you report are indicative of a disc that is damaged, or scratched, or smudged, or dirty, or (in more rare cases) are a bad pressing (a "mastering error"). As suggested above, first try to clean the disc. Then, if the trouble remains, you may end up having to return it to the store where you purchased it, as a defective disc.
