@Ireland....I must confess that I have to agree with rdmercer on this though I too don't report them either. For the more established members to tease each other with sarcastic humor is one thing but we need to be more careful with the newbies. As I sometimes mention, my initial contact with afterdawn as a newbie was for the stupidist possible thing....I couldn't rewrite a non-rewritable disc LOL! The thing is, if some one would have told me that I was nothing but a mindless stupid idiot, I never would have come back. Thanks to someone's kind answer to an albeit stupid question, I've learnt a lot here and have been able to help others with that same knowledge. For experienced members, sarcasm and even outright nastiness sometimes is one thing, we know it humor and if not, we know how to handle it. It just isn't right to greet a newbie with a freakin' slap in the face.

there's a difference between justly reprimanding someone for painful stupidity and bashing them. typically, the bashing doesn't start til the newbie explodes from all the...constructive criticism. ^.^

@Auslander....while I agree with what you said, there is a great deal of the other as well. I've seen plenty of instances where a newbie asks a very polite (albeit sometimes dumb) question and gets a wise-a$$ response calling him an idiot. It was a big enough problem that dRD has a sticky somewhere addressing this very issue and asking people to refrain from doing this ... don't have time to look for it though.

    i have the solution!

give me a gun, and i'll shoot anyone on sight who's not playing smartly or nice! MWAHAHAAAHAAHA!

i don't deny there's a problem, ger. i think a bigger issue lies in the range of actions that seem justified to various members.

Overall I have found After Dawn to be one of the more polite and respectful places on the internet! I was a total newbie here and everyone was very kind. I don't agree that new ones should be jumped on, but Auslander has a good point. Most of the jumpings I have seen involve some rude behavior by the original poster first.

I don't think that "try this" and a link to an appropriate thread is too rude. I see that alot. But sometimes people get angry and don't want to read the suggested threads, or continually post questions without searching, OR keep double posting. I have seen this type of behavior corrected. I am not sure it was bashing though.

I know bashing happens in Wolves threads but those are an exception and the others you see should be reported. I have to agree with Ireland and suggest posting links to the bashing so they can be reported and dealt with.

Indeed there are a few gaming forums that I will never visit again after my experience with rude rude crass hateful individuals who prefer to lord over their own knowledge without any intent to help or constructively criticize. I would hate to see that going on here.

I never go to the game forums but they have quite the reputation! I've read some when people have posted links to the more nightmarish threads.

it gets that bad sometimes, with even Addicts being total douchehammers, but they get banned after a few incidents and things get better for a while.

there's an ebb and flow to everything on AD, from attitude to types of threads to technological breakthroughs. right now, stupidity and anger seem high, but i've seen it worse. we're probably on a downwards slope right now, with the graph looking something like y = (sinx)/3. ^.^

    *edit*
don't ever go in the gaming forums. i make that mistake here and there, and afterwards i normally go a bit crazy and threaten to leave AD.

Lesson learned believe me. I don't need alot of game help I will always suck at those, but I was pimping my DS out and needed a little help with a few homebrew proggies. I got bashed asking questions and bashed trying to help. I gave up on it. I'll talk about games with my kids! Although I must say the AD game forums are not HALF as bad as others out there.

I was banned from one forum and I don't even know why??? I am not usually an inflammatory poster!! And I always use the search. I was never even notified. I just got a message that my email was banned when I tried to sign in...then I felt like Aus...where is my (EXPLETIVE DELETED) gun!!!!!!!!!!!!

IRC can be even worse. don't even get me started on some of the channels i've been on.

some threads, like this one----i mean, jesus....you have no idea how hard it was for me to just report it and now rip each and everyone one of those fools a new one.

what defines "nerd," anyway? it's like the term "gay," as it's not really a mark of inferiority or failure, so it can't really be used as an insult anymore.

    *edit*
and not even the seniors/addicts from the thread i linked to (they seem good there), but how the hell do some of the kiddies that are senior get that way? i've seen them posting questions even newbies would be embarrassed of! it's pathetic!

Perogies are really easy....thick mashed potatos with cheddar, or bacon in a pasta shell which is then either boiled, steamed or fried :)
