i just came across these things and I am interested to know that if it can take the place of a direct tv receiver such that a direct tv satellite is hooked up to it. Also, how many of the channels can you pick up; can it get all of them. And one more thing, if i were to use it could direct tv know that i was using it.
fta receivers will get all of dishnetwork, but not direcTV. there are also lots of free satellites you can pick up.
Basically there's satellite tv across the globe. In the long run it makes more sense rather than laying cable all over the place. Anyway try looking at lyngsat.com it has a TON of info. If something is in the clear and in the green for ku band (the smaller dishes) then you should be able to get it....also as long as its aimed in your area. Some satellites have a ton like IA5 that has around 100 channels (mostly foregin) but it's interesting like I heard of one guy that gets about 3/4ths of what nfl sunday ticket shows for free because he's managed in his equipment to pick up a ton of games. FTA seems to be for video what shortwave is for audio.
How can an fta (free to air) reciever get Dishnetwork? I know they can get the music channels because they are not encrypted but the scrambled channels? I doubt it!
well you can doubt it all you want bro, but me and about 4 million other folks enjoy our TV just fine. i get every single channel, sports package, and ppv there is from dishnetwork with my FTA reciever. do a little research before you go doubting what you know nothing about. **EDIT - i just re-read that and realized it sounded much more harsh than it was meant. not trying to be a jerk, just having a crazy night.
