    Looking for comments regarding the BCFC firmware, how it affects the drive and if it is a worthwhile flash.

    I have downloaded it, but wonder if I should flash the drive or not.

    Thanks.

    creaky, zebadee, and myself are all using it with EXCELLENT results...zebadee was the one who CONVINCED me to flash it, i TRUST his opinion/suggestions to the fullest~ :)

    Hi doc, thanks for the comeback. I actually tried to flash the drive last night, without success as I couldn't figure out how to open the .rar file. What flash tool did you use? I thought that it would flash like my NEC or LG, but it didn't.

    Can you provide a link for a flash tool, or explain how to go about it?

    Thank you my friend.

    Hi,
    You need a program like WinRAR. The f/w is selfcontained ie loader\launcher\f/w. So nothing else needed. Take a look here.

    Hi Zebadee, thanks for the assistance. I have downloaded wrar36b2.exe and unrarw32.exe

    Which of the two would you recommend that I use?

    Will the process be self explanitory or is there something that I should be aware of?

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi,
    Use the first one(wrar36b2). Although a beta it's pretty good/reliable. Comprehensive guide/tips box. 40 day trial.

    @ docTY

    I just got a DW 1650 Benq OEM. Can it be flashed with the same firmware? In other words do OEM and labeled drives use the same firmware?

    @zebadee

    Thank you for your help. I appreciate it. :)

    @garmoon

    Mine was OEM as well and came with the BCDC firmware. Which firmware did yours come with? It says on top of the drive. You may not need to flash.

    @9mmruger1

    My DW1650 has firmware BCFC according to Decrypter and Nero and it seems that's what was on outside of the drive. What is the newest firmware, BCFC? If so then I don't need to flash. I was getting info that BCDC was update. While we're at it, is the Qsuite worthwhile to use? I have already set the booktype to DVD-ROM with decrypter. And it's complying. I've only burned a couple of movies tho since I put it in Wednesday. Seems to burn as well as my 16X LG external.

    Hi,
    @ garmoon, AFAIK all current BenQs oem/retail have same series f/w.(BC**).Third parties like IOMagic use the GC** series f/w. I suggest you try out the drive with the f/w already installed & compare with results others are getting. Just because someone like me uses BCFC, doesn't mean it will give you the same results. Different setups/CPU/PSU/Temp etc not to mention media all have some input in the end result. A lot of the latest drives from NewEgg have BCFC f/w.

    @ 9mmrugger1, your welcome.

    I have owned nothing but Plextors for burning since way back when. My PX-716A will no longer burn to any +R media. +RW and -R, yes. I have no clue what happened to it, but I am looking at getting the Benq DW 1650 or the DW 1655.

    I see that there is not much difference in cost to get the Lightscribe, but are the main guts of the 1655 lesser than the 1650?

    Is the Lightscribe worth getting? I know the label burning is nowhere near perfect, but are lables readable?

    I've updated my anydvd twice this week,not counting this latest release. They have been pretty busy at anydvd. Something must be up with sony? I tried to update it last night,and shut it down so it could reboot this morning and take effect. Update did not take place. I'll try again later.

    I still have the BCDC firmware. I may update her to the BCFC fw?

    I'm on my 4th benq,and haven't worn out a single one of them. They are phenomenal burners. Updated fw also hasn't seem to do much improvements for me.

    Take my original I/O Magic 16x drive which is a benq 1620 with the original fw of B7C9.No rebadge-it's a genuine 1620 and all my programs and device manager tells me it's a 1620 bulk drive. Very old fw,but she burned like a dream. I had to update it to the B7V9 fw to be able to use qsuite 2.0. No noticeable improvements. I have some of the options of qsuite,but no overburn protection option. Benqs do love to overburn majority of the 8x media to 12x and even 16x.

    Still well over 99% success rate using that I/O magic benq drive-and probably 3200+ backups and counting. I know the quality 8x and 16x media is far superior than the older quality 4x media. All my issues disapeared,just like the 4x media, LOL

    That's one great aspect of benq, Very frequent fw updates!

    @GrandpaBW

    I got the DW1650 w/o lightscribe(newegg.com $40 shipped) since I had an LG with lightscribe. I've only done 1 lightscribe with it in 4mos. It was not set to best sewtting so I was not satisfied with the burn. Too light. The DW 1655 was just a little more. As far as guts I don't know if the innards are the same? The Qsuite seems to be a nice addition. Just installed it.

    edit: It also came with latest firmware BCFC

    wow, everyone jumped in after my initial response~ :)

    glad to see everyone is sorted...

    @garmoon

    yes, keep the BCFC firmware, you don't need to flash anything...but DO install QSuite v2.1 as it's functions are WELL WORTH IT! :)

    @9mm

    seems like everyone i mentioned chimed in already...as i stated in another thread, i was using the BCDC for about 60+ burns, it works well, but as i'm one to CONTINUALLY try newest firmware available, i went to BCFC as soon as zebadee tested it and recommended it~ :) i've been thoroughly pleased since...

    @all

    i don't have the 1655 (lightscribe) drive yet, and most likely i never will, while a very useful tool for labelling, i don't see myself using it anytime in the near future~ :) i love my Sharpies too much~ LOL

    carry on buddies, burn on...the Benq 1650 w/ BCFC firmware LOVES Taiyo Yuden media, even more so than Verbatim MCC003/MCC004 that i have been using lately...while the quality score difference is marginal, it's SLIGHTLY higher w/ YUDEN000T02/YUDEN000T03 than the Verb MCC003/MCC004 counterparts~ :)

    i naturally burn ALL my backups @8x...just a FYI to those who might want a generalization on choosing media~ :)

    docTY~

    I made the jump to BCFC last night. I burn two each of the Ritek P16's and mcc004 verbs at 8x. Was not particularly happy with the scans, but it is only the first couple of burns with seasonal discs (if that makes a difference). I will post the scans in the BenQ Scan Hall of Fame.

    Thanks to all for comments and enlightenment on the new firmware.

    I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

    Cheers.
