What steps are you taking before you burn? Almost every new DVD has encryption on it. Are you decrypting the DVD? Are you burning to DVD-5 or DVD-9? What media are you burning to? Are you shrinking the files to burn to DVD-5? You are also running Nero 5.5.10.35. I am not 100% sure but it may be a problem with your Nero. Have you checked for updates?
Just to add to syxguns post: Update your firmware to the latest version 2.FA. This may help your drive with the Riteks discs. You might want to try this version of 5 (5.5.10.56) There's probably even a later version than this: http://www.oldversion.com/download.php?idlong=f4d7f205b171d66ec81456c47647954d
@MeBurns Post your new log to see if anything changed. Still looking like your getting the failure right off the bat. When did this problem start? Any changes? Have you been able to burn any of these Riteks? It is though looking like your drive may not like them.

do i have to set up nero a certain way for it to burn like the settings or whatever if someone can tell me step by step about doing that would be great also ty
Hi MeBurns Here's a few questions for you from my post above When did this problem start? Any changes? Have you been able to burn any of these Riteks? It is though looking like your drive may not like them. The discs your using are 16x Ritek and are probably have a brand name like Maxell, Fuji, Memorex etc. What are you trying to burn - we may have some freeware you can try and see if that makes a difference.
When did this problem start? A: to be honest i am not sure i burned a few movies with it both downloaded and backups from my dvds after 3 or 4 months later i got that error i am not sure why...i can burn Audio CDs with it but not DVDs witch doesnt make sense to me Any changes? A: only change i done is remove my old drive to put in burner all else is good Have you been able to burn any of these Riteks? A: im not sure what a riteks is lol... The discs your using are 16x Ritek and are probably have a brand name like Maxell, Fuji, Memorex etc. A: I am using Memorex DVD-R 16x 4.7GB 120Min. What are you trying to burn? A: I Downloaded a music video movie to test burn after i reformated got same error as before P.S. Thanks For Helping Me A Newbie
Ok Is the Mad Dog the new burner you put in? Did you make sure the jumper pins are set to master on it? It's listed as the master drive on secondary ide channel. The LiteOn is listed as slave - so the jumper pins should be set to slave on that. (if you just swapped the master drive then chances are the LiteOn is already set to slave) Ritek is who actually manufactured those discs for memerox. So have you had any success with them. Looks like your burning an iso image - if that's the case then imgburn or dvd decrypter are free & good to try out. Oh and no problem on the help. We we're all newbie's at one point

(if you just swapped the master drive then chances are the LiteOn is already set to slave) A: It Was At Slave But Then I Changed Pins To Master Should I Put Back On Slave? Ritek is who actually manufactured those discs for memerox. So have you had any success with them. A: no success with these new disk also this problem started before i ran out of my old dvd disk(does not say on them what type of disk they are) i wasted those 10 cuz it wouldnt burn got same error i get now.... and i tried to burn with Movie.DVD.Maker.v1.5.6 a friend sent to me and it does everything cept when it comes to burn gives an error...will try the link program see what happens
No you were right to change the pins to master (if we're talking the mad dog here) - no need to change them. It's still looking like your drive does not like these discs. But you did have failures before these new ones. Better to try would be Verbatim or made in japan only Sony, Fuji or Maxell. If it's an iso image open that image in imgburn or dvd decrypter (same developer) and try that to burn. http://www.imgburn.com/ http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
Hey Binkie7 That was a brilliant solution about checking the master and slave! I knew that one, but it would have never come to my mind to suggest it!!
The thing i dont get is that when i got put it in the first time it was set to slave then it stoped working and a friend told me to put it on master and well it didnt work ither way lol...neways i just might get a new burner and sell this one or something cuz its really ticking me off i really am thankfull for your help and taking the time to read my post
@MeBurns Yep a bunch of burn failures would tick me off too! You may just want to check both drives - the Mad Dog should be set to master and the LiteOn set to slave. Since the other burning programs are giving you problems also try some of the different media. Depending on where you are - someone here can probably lead you to some deals on quality media. I'd try different media 1st b/4 buying a new drive. It's cheaper and worst case you can always use in the new drive Keep us posted!
Hi, Newbie here. I have this same error, I had an Asus DVDRW (will find out the model) and now I today received my new Lite-on and still the same error. I have used so many quality and not so quality discs it is not funny. My question is this. Should the drive be on its own IDE channel seperate from the DVDROM or should it be set to master on the same channel as the other drive? My setup is that i have a SATA hd drive and therefore have both IDE channels free for DVD's. At the moment my ASUS DVDrom is primary master and the DVDRW (both drives i have tried) is on primary slave. I had a working setup when i only had one drive (the Asus DVDRW)and an IDE HD (both on individual channels).
i opened my computer up yesterday to double check that the burner was on "Master" Pins and the other one was on "Slave" and it was set up right... now here is a screen shot of something i dont get what is the top slot mean? Hey MeBurns The top slot on primary is your hard drive set to the master connector of the ide cable (correct). The secondary slots show your burner set on the master connector on the secondary ide cable. Even though they may be set correctly on the connector for the ide cable you just need to make sure the jumper pins reflect the connector they're attaching to. (only way to tell is to physically look at the drives) So you are good to go there. Now the illegal disc error - let's try some new media like Verbatim or made in Japan only Fuji or Sony. We've ruled out a few things and other software also gives you an error. So even though you have a 16x drive with up to date firmware - the firmware for the Riteks (memorex)may not be in it and your drive may have a hard time recognizing it. So try some new media and we'll go from there. Keep us posted!! Hi trekkie75 Welcome to aD You can have both drives set on a separate ide cable(1 on primary & 1 on secondary) if you like as master. Just make sure the jumper pins are set to master. Or put them both on the primary ide as master & slave - again jumper pins should correspond. Also make sure your firmware is up to date on the drive(s). Even though you have a new LiteOn depending on when the drive was actually manufactured there may be an update already. If this still doesn't work for you start a new thread (would hate to see you get unanswered or missed by accident in this one). Post your Nero last log - just be sure to edit out the serial #.
