Im doing shrink then to decrypter and it just freezes after 20 seconds no error message. In xcopy it will not open to start in either full or short version. I've cleaned and tried different dvds but always with the same result. Have had problems in past with recording but with either cleaning or switching from one program to another it always works itself out until I ran into this dvd.

ps thanks in advance for the help.

I note that "Being Julia" is a Sony / Columbia / Tristar movie. Because of this, it is one of those discs that has the copy protection known as "Sony ArCCos" on it.

This does not mean it cannot be ripped. BUT, it does mean that you have to use the correct program / combination of programs, and that you must exercise some care.

Note that DVDShrink by itself will never be able to rip it. Never. The latest version of DVDDecrypter, though, will handle almost all of these discs (which Region are you in)? WHICH version of DVDDecrypter did you try to use? Was it the latest version? Earlier versions could not handle these discs.

You can also use DVDShrink IF you run AnyDVD in the background while ripping, or IF you run DVD43 in the background while ripping.

There are also other programs that can rip these discs.

Click on the link below, and read the information very carefully. If you will note, "Being Julia" Region 1 is one of the afflicted films on the list.

Ok after doing an all out battle against being julia(different programs, different tries, standing on my head etc. I have gotten it onto my hard drive as an iso file through decrypter with dvd43 running. I have now tried to open with shrink, but it will not recognize the file. It's there but not there when I look with shrink. Am at witts end with this, sorry for being newbie with not much copy sense. What is my next move...

    thanks

Try copying it with DVD Shrink while AnyDVD runs in the background. SO far AnyDVD has had no problems for me, even ripping the latest DVD's. Haven't tried this particular one, but several others burned fine this way, even the ones with the "new" encryptions. AnyDVD has a 21-day free trial available, so it is worth it just to try it out.

Are you clicking file then selecting "Open Disk Image" in Shrink? Or are you just trying to use the open file button?
