At Meritline: $26.99 after rebate for NEC 3550 http://www.meritline.com/nec-nd-3550a-16x-dvd-burner.html The very latest BenQ 1650 for $36.99 http://www.meritline.com/benq-dw-1650-16x-dvd-burner.html I will be getting both of these !
Congrats on the new burners StanH1000. I only use benq burners and the 1650 I just got this week is awesome. Watch out if you burn slow. My scans are looking better with the 8x scans on my tys,way better than the 4x backups after testing them. For higher stand alone compatability, booktye the plus format to dvd-rom. Of all 4 benqs I have, stand alone players have a harder time recognizing my dash backups.Benqs highly favor the plus format. Let me know if you want the link for qsuite 2.0. That utility has some great features: Booktyping/WOPC/Solid Burn/qscan-to check empty discs, and a couple of others.
@saugmon: Did the BenQ come with latest firmware or is the original firmware already out of date? Do you think the solidburn feature will help the -R issue? I have about 300 blank -R, most of which are MIJ Sony TY, MIJ Fugi TY, and Verbatim. I would like to use them on the BenQ on home computer. I am going to put the NEC on my work computer, but have less time there for movie backup burning. Would appreciate the Qsuite and latest firmware links for the BenQ - Thanx !
well what the F*** i am kicking my own ass now. i bought my dumb ass dw1650 for 63 bucks and i didnt even burn that much with this drive. should have wait for this sale and buy 2 of them. hay saugmon, i would like to get the link for the qsuite 2.0. thanks in advance
Here's qsuite: http://support.benq.com/front/BenqM...langu=null&ops=null&GenMenu=&RootId=undefined Some peeps had trouble with qsuite 2.1,so I advise the 2.0 version. My fw was out of date,so I updated it as soon as I installed it: http://support.benq.com/front/BenqM...langu=null&ops=null&GenMenu=&RootId=undefined The 1650 is suppose to booktype right out of the box or with the latest fw update. I already had qsuite set to do the booktyping. I will try setting it for dvd+r and see if it still booktypes. Edit: I just switched the booktype dvd-rom to +r in qsuite, burned a disc here's what dvdidentifier tells me: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R] Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.] Manufacturer ID : [YUDEN000] Media Type ID : [T02] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- That disc is not booktyped. I thought maybe the burner would still set it to booktype by default, not. I had to use qsuite to set it.
When I ordered yesterday from Meritline the shipping for one drive was $7.00, for two drives was $8.00, and was still $8.00 after I added three printer ink carts. For an order of about $100 total the $8.00 shipping was less than the sales tax had I bought this stuff at a retail store (at a much higher price, no doubt).
The BenQ 1650 is a great deal for a new drive. The Nec 3550a deal is also too good to pass up at $26.99 after rebate. A CD burner/DVD-ROM combo drive would cost more. Therefore great as a ripper drive and backup burner.
last time i check the shipping is only 11 for both drive. so if money is not the issue then might as well buy both of them.
At Meritline yesterday: Shipping one drive was $7.00 and shipping two drives was $8.00 total. I ordered both the BenQ 1650 and the NEC 3550a as well as three printer ink cartridges and paid only the same shipping total $8.00 for all. I can post my invoice if you like.
You can get the 1655 (with LS and a 10-pack of discs) for $53.99 after $12 rebate, including s/h . . . .here: http://www.meritline.com/newsletter2.html
