Does anyone know where i can get this? I bout this burner from Newegg.com, not knowing that they sell OEM stuff that comes with no software whatsoever. I called them and they were no help at all. I installed the DVD Burner but now because of the new hardware the PC (Windows XP Home ED. SP2) will not even boot up at all. I have never had this problem with anything else i have installed. I plan to disconnect it and start the PC, then connect it when i get home. But i would really like some install software for this burner. I hope someone can guide me to a site where i can download it and burn to a CD. As i have a seperate CD burner also.
Ok, never mind that one, i called BenQ and they tell me it should just be plug and play so there must be someting wrong in my hardware settings or something. Now i just have to spend all night figure=ing out what? I know when i too out the stoc drive and installed my Sony DRU700A, there was nothing i had to do, but this one will not even let the PC boot up so something is majorly wrong. Any ideas as to where i should start looking for the problem? I have Nero6 so i have the label maker, i guess that means i will not need any lightscribe software?
I always buy OEM BenQ drives from NewEgg .. never any installation problems .. Nero 6, with the labelmaker may be able to burn LightScribe™ .. in case it can't, go to this link and download SureThing SE (free) http://www.lightscribe.com/gettingstarted/index.aspx?id=87
He told me it could be the jumper settings but i have yet to find a site that will tell me what the different jumper settings are? And ideas? If they are set wrong then i could see why the PC would not boot right. If i can't find them i will just try each one until i can get it to boot up correctly. Then go looking for the other software. Thanks for the link.
go here for a CD/DVD player/writer installation guide http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/installing_cd_recorder.htm
Hi, You might find this guide useful, although for a Philips 1668. It's essentially the same drive as the BenQ 1655. http://www.storageupdates.philips.com/files/dvdrw/930512524738_How_To_LightScribe.pdf
Thanks, the install is no problem. It was the jumper settings that i hope will fix my problem of the PC not booting up right. I never thought to check them because every one i had before this i just slapped in and it worked. I hope this burner tunrs out to be worth it.
Don't worry, it's worth it, and yes, it more than likely is your jumper settings. I had to set mine to Master, as it was jumpered to Slave when I got it (although I'm sure that's fairly inconsistent from drive to drive).
Nope, mine was set to slave as well, i switched it over to master and bingo, no problems and is burning fine. Downloaded the SureThing 4SE program and did a few DVD's with the lightscribe, they look real nice. Especially since you can make it look sort of like the retail DVD, or at least have the same picture on them.
The last three drives that I purchased from NewEgg (2 were BenQ drives) were all jumpered to 'slave' for some reason ... @ steimy .. regarding LightScribe .. I've had the best results when I set the quality to 'best' and burn the label twice ... I just set it for 2 discs and when the disc ejects, I click OK and the disc goes back in and burns the label again ... Looks really good that way!
Hi, Whilst on the topic of LS. Are you aware of this. http://www.lightscribe.com/support/index.aspx?id=306
I downloaded that as soon as I started messing around with LS .. I still fing it necessary to burn each label twice ...
i was, but so many of the utilities on that page do not say if they are universal or not so i didn't get them, but i will get that one. Anyone know about these: I think one was called Qvideo and the other was Qsuite? Are they for any burner? What are they?
QSuite is a 'must have' utility package for BenQ burners .. The BenQ exclusive QSuite tool is an innovative application suite that both compliments and enhances the convenience of DVD recording technology. Through use of the five encompassed functions: Book Type Management, QScan, Test Write, WOPC and Solid Burn enable / disable; you can easily adjust drive settings in order to gain even greater control. Smart tip: The default tab provides you with both drive and media information at a glance. The BenQ Book Type Management tool allows you to freely choose a DVD+RW, DVD+R, or DVD+R DL disc to be written as DVD-ROM book type, the most recognizable disc for DVD players. No longer will you need to worry about media backward compatibility problems with older model DVD players. QScan Checks Disk Quality for Optimizing Over-Speed Burning No more wasted media! BenQ's QScan is an easy to use media scanning tool, which provides information on the optimal over-speed burning quality of blank media without actually burning to the disc. Now you can be sure your media is being written with the highest quality and speed possible with BenQ DVDRW drives!! WOPC Greater Control Over Writing To Blank Media Are you confident with the quality of your media? If you use premium-quality media, then you may not need the WOPC (Walking Optimal Power Control) function of your drive to dynamically adjust the writing power during burning. By using the WOPC disable function you can subsequently speed up burning time. Test Write Simulation Writing Made Possible!! Finally, you can simulate writing on DVD+R / +RW / +R DL media at your discretion. Using the BenQ exclusive Test Write tool, no longer will you need to waste media on trail burning. Solid Burn Allows your burner to learn newer media types effectively eliminating the need for frequent firmware upgrades QVideo QVideo is specially designed for DV users. DV is a Digital Video Format mostly used by Video Camcorders. With one simple click, you can create your personal DVD instantly. Produce your own DVD in an hour from any hour's worth of DV content. This Tool can be used in Windows 2000 and Windows XP with BenQ and Philips writers only ! This tool is also useful if you have a Tv tuner card ...
definitely agree with that cat, the qsuite is indispensable with the dw 1655 ...i haven't had a single bum burn since i used it in conjunction with solid burn technology etc. only thing it is crap at is the speed test as it keeps telling me all my discs are unsuitable at different speeds even though i use verbatim retail dvd discs and they work fine at full 16 x speed after ignoring the qsuite warnings.
Thanks guys, wasn't sure i could use it with my burner as the only site i could find it on was the BenQ site in Europe. I will have to DL that one tonight. No camcorder so i guess i will not bother with Qvideo.
