I have a DVD burner that used to work fine. It stopped playing DVDs last week. It still can play CDs though. I have uninstalled & re-installed the BenQ software. It's still not working. I even tried a system restore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If it will not play any type of DVD's you may have to take it out & have the DVD laser tested. It is a separate laser from the CD laser.
what program are you using to watch your DVDs in the computer? make sure that your program enable to watch DVD-ROMs! If using RealPlayer then go to TOOLS/PREFERENCES/MEDIA TYPES/ Then tick the box MANUALLY CONFIGURE then hit SELECT ...... then SELECT ALL. this should allow you to play your DVD with this program. What ever program you are using to view your dvd then make sure it will play the media type files of the DVD and it should play it!
I tried what you suggested: I went to Tools in RealPlayer & manually selected all media types. & I did it also in Window Media Player and the DVD-ROM is still not playing movies.
you must be missing a codec or something. try installing K-lite codecs: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm who knows..... it might work!
Do you have another computer you can test it in? Reformat your HDD-- if it will not work it is time for Best Buy
Ok, I've downloaded & installed K Lite Codec Pack. I enabled all the options. The DVD-ROM still failed to play.
