I recieved the benq dw1620 last year and didnt use it right away, several months later I installed the drive and it didnt work properly, so I just stupidly put it back in the drawer and passed it off. Today I took it out of the drawer and am trying to find out what the problem is with it. It is recognized by windows, when it is first connected the add new hardware wizard appears and it is installed properly, but when the eject button is pressed nothing happens. I successfully flashed the drive to G7V9 firmware, but with no luck. Is my drive toast? Is it too late to get it RMA'd? What should I do?

Also, I am running windows XP.

Benq 1620 has 2 different firmwares. The pro version with the G7?9 fw and the Bulk version: B7?9 fw. I've got 2 of the bulk drives.

Did you download the correct fw?

Did you use the 80 wire/40 pin ide ribbon that may have come with that drive?

It'll have double the wires,so look for very thin wires,as apposed to the older 40 wire/40 pin ribbons.

Is the power connector properly seated?

Did you set the jumpers correct? Master/slave/or Cable Select?

How do you have that benq configured: Primary slay/secondary master/secondary slave/seconary c-s?

Some Brands of pcs-when not mastering a drive: may require cable select, and others may require it being slave.

The first time you installed it,did it do the same thing?

sorry for bumping this thread...but is there a difference between the pro and the bulk firmware in quality?

    G7W9 is the latest right?

G7W9 would be the retail version-also known as the pro version.

B7W9 would be the Bulk version-which I have 2,but with the B7V9 being the latest that I know of.

Look here to see if there is a G7V9 firmware:

From all the benq 1620 threads I have posted to,usually majority of issues was with the G fw. I think some of them crossflashed them to the bulk fw version.

    You having trouble with yours?

Mine won't die. They keep burning and burning and burning.
