I rarely use this drive and just noticed that its not able to booktype. I've recently updated the firmware to BCHB a month ago, but haven't tried burning anything but LS until last night. Running QSuite 2.1 and set booktype for all discs to DVD-ROM, restarted, still unable to booktype. Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling still to no avail...any help guys? =(
uh, what do you mean ur "still unable to booktype?" have you tried burning a dvd+r to see if it does? what burning progs. u using? and WHEN are you checking a dvd+R disc for the booktype, BEFORE a burn??? the booktyping aspect takes place just PRIOR to the burn and you will not be able to see/determine it being booktyped till AFTER the burn takes place and you can check with dvd decrypter, dvd identifier, dvdinfopro, etc... i'm not trying to sound condescending, it's just that you CAN NOT determine whether it actually booktypes or not without trying a dvd+r disc BURN first, restarting your computer really does nothing in terms of booktyping... you said you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling...what??? QSuite? your actual physical drive? or you uninstalled in control panel under device manager? something OBVIOUS is being overlooked here or your setup is incorrect... docTY~
I'll agree with kivory666 and zebadee. These benqs are booktyping phenoms-using the plus format media. In zebadee's pic-in the center, make sure current write booktype says dvd-rom. Insert the backup disc in your benq/open up qsuite/booktype tab/click the check media box/media status-at the bottom of zebadee's pic and it'll tell you if it's booktyped to dvd-rom. Another way: Use this free utility: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm Insert backup disc, open dvdidentifier, select the dvd drive the backup disc is in. Click identify. Now you can click on clipboard and paste the results into your next post. It'll look like this: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD-ROM] Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.] Manufacturer ID : [YUDEN000] Media Type ID : [T02] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take a pic of that qsuite booktype page or paste the clipboard info from dvdidentifier. We'll tell you if it's a success or not. The first time I downloaded qsuite 2.0,I set it up to dvd-rom. A week or so later, they reverted back to dvd+r,so I had to set them again. Pretty weird!
Ok thanks for your input guys. I've been using Nero 7 to burn Recode/Shrink. When its time to burn the DVD, there is no option in Recode to set to DVD-ROM and the option is grayed out in DVD Shrink. I've un/reinstalled all programs Nero/Shrink/QSuite and un/reinstalled the drives both physically and through Device Manager even trying to swapping Master/Slave positioning. And this is what DVDIdentifier showed: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:SONY-D11-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R] Manufacturer Name : [Sony Recording Media Co.] Manufacturer ID : [SONY] Media Type ID : [D11] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier V4.3.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] --------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's another: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:MCC-004-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R] Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.] Manufacturer ID : [MCC] Media Type ID : [004] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x , 6x-16x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier V4.3.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] -------------------------------------------------------------------- That's all I have as far as info guys...
qsuite should booktype, usually no matter what burn program you use. Nero7: I'm not familiar with. Do you have dual drives? When you open up qsuite: Do you get the main window,or do you get a couple small windows and with error messages and no further?
Hi, You should be able to bitset with QSuite. I believe that f/w should give you DVD-ROM by default for DVD+R &DVD+R DL. DVD+R RW may well be DVD+R. In Nero 7 you should be able to bitset via the main Burning Rom prog or CD/DVDSpeed. It might be worth reflashing drive with same f/w in case previous flash hasn't taken properly.
QSuite opens up fine with no errors. I have dual drives and tried various combinations with Master/Slave and even having the 1655 by itself. I've also tried reflashing with BCHB but still no good. Would it be harmful if I reflashed with an older F/w then flash to the most current one? The drive's booktype setting in QSuite is set to DVD-ROM but as you can see from these two burns they are still showing up as DVD+R...maybe I'll just have to send this one back and get a replacement...you guys know if newegg is pretty hassle free as far as returns go? I did get the extended warranty for the drive for an extra two years (should something like this happen). But if you guys have any more ideas out there, I'd greatly appreciate it as I do with the suggestions you all have already provided. =)
Hi, You can flash back & forth as much as you like. It does sound like your drive needs "waking up". Sometimes flashing to an earlier f/w then xack again can do this. Crossflashing can also work (this voids warranty) & of course no guarantees of resolving problem. You might want to take a look here for info about flashing. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=171380
Well...I give up. I've flashed and reflashed this drive and still no use. Time to send it back...thanks for all your input guys. =)
I have a similar problem like (haza12d) although I can booktype but only throuh Qsuite and i can do it this way but when it comes time to burn When Im done burning it says its been booktyped. But im still wondering why it dosent give me a option to booktype before the burn. This drive use to do so but i think eversince i flashed it to BCHB it stopped. Im sure its probably ok since it says its been booktyped after its done but why dosent give me the options like before My plextor 740 does the same thing i know it can booktype but why does it have this problem
To all out there with Nero Recode, it gives you the option to booktype. You just have to look for it. In the burn settings window on bottom left corner click on more button and window lengthens to show a drop down box under the more button to set booktype! Nero6.6.0.18.
There is really not a option for me. trust me i looked and looked. it is not only nero recode it happens in burning rom and nve
