not sure about your on board or not, but just buy the card, its only like 15 bucks. and yes it will back it up. it will be on the usb stick in the FW folder i believe, and two copies in the backup folder. its pretty hard to brick a benq, have heard on maybe one or two cases of it. and yes if it reads right, its safe to flash.

    Hi Guys,

I just a bought a new elite, and Im freaked trying to mod it. I've read textbook's guide n watched a few tut videos as well. I still have a few questions, would appreciate a speedy reply. My drive is BenQ.

1] My Sata is Intel 82801EB UltraATA Storage Controller , and iPrep identifies it as "Dosflash only". Will it work with this or do I need a VIA card?

2] If i just READ the firmware using Iprep usb, will it automatically be backed up somewhere? And what will the filename be?

3] Suppose I brick my drive, how do I restore it?

4] If the FW reads right, is it safe to flash? (Considering that I'm not sure my sata chipset will work)

    Ok,

I got the VIA chipset, but i have a new problem!!!!

When reading bank 3, iprep says benqofw.bin not found. Banks 0, 1 and 2 read just fine.

Ive followed all the steps in Textbook's tutorial, except im using the non-stealth ixtreme.

    Please help.

    OK. Solved the problem.

Iprep v007 has problems renaming the OFW. Its names " Benq-OFW.bin "

It doesnt work with the firmtool 1.2. as it searched for " Ben-OFW.bin ". [notice the missing q in the latter one]

Just used iPrep v006, and it worked great.

This is just so that every1 else knows.
