i got a Compaq Presario SR1638NX and was cleaning it and took out the cpu box from the motherboard. i think they are bent beyond repair but not sure. what im trying to figure out is if i cant fix it i looked up the processor and t hp site said its a Socket: 939 Supports AMD Athlon 64 X2 (up to 4800+) and Sempron (up to 3200+) processors. thats all the info i got from it. im thinking il have to buy a new one. newegg has what i think is a comapatible one here but i cant seem to find enough info to make 100% sure please let me know cause its my moms computer. thanks
that am2 cpu from newegg will not work on your board, you need a socket 939 cpu as per this link. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ry&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&product=1146755&lang=en if still have the broken pin & as long as the pin's base is still attached to the cpu then the pin can be resoldered to the cpu as i have done it before.
