I would also be interested. I augment my defences with Peerguardian. It is catching WAY too much. I have 2 firewalls and a virus protector. PG is catching scores of threats at any given time. My defences except for PG are worthless! The attacks have quadrupled in the last 3-4 months. I suspect my firewalls have been neutralized or worthless to begin with.

PG blocks by IP address of known threats.

aglio2cry PG is freeware. I would get that ASAP. Anything else of use will be paid for. I tried a free version of Comedo and it screwed up my computer. The stupid thing insisted on trying to virus scan my computer during installation. I have about a weeks worth of scanning to check me out. The free version scans slowly and I have TBs of data.

Me again, I can give a terrible review for Spyware Doctor. The stupid pig of a program wants to scan everything all the time. I have many teribytes of disk space. I dont want to scan those areas. I am liking CA much more after that piece of crap. You can tell it only scan what is comming in or going out.

    the best

    1. firewall (any basic inbound/outbound protection) I use zone alarm
    2. antivirus (I use the free avg 8.0) it's all I ever use.
    3. antispyware ( I use the free returnil) no known/unknown virus/spyware will defeat returnil. I would not surf the internet without returnil running in the background. Since returnil runs in system memory it doesn't slow down your computer.
    4. internet browser (firefox 3.0) Use this browser and 95 percent of you driveby attacks/homepage hijacks/ popups will dissappear. Internet explorer is hardwired to the registry, any attacks will bring your computer down.

The above is all I use and I haven't been attacked in over a year. The 2 important programs are firefox and returnil, those will save you everytime.

Stay away from any all-in-one internet suites, they will slow you down too much.

Note returnil won't cleanout your system if it has virus/spyware. It will only keep a clean system from getting corrupted.

From my expierence once your attacked, it can take weeks to clear out all the virus/spyware from your system. You have to use multiple programs to disinfect your computer.

jony218 I hear you on the slow up. I had to turn off Spyware Doctor. It must have been using 75% of the power just to scan. That is totally unacceptable. I would prefer to have adware to running that.

Whatever is free has ALWAYS been the best.

    About my experience.
I don't pay for any of my virus protection it is all freeware and yet... (by not clicking on stupid things on the net like my dad does on my PC) I have never had a virus on my laptop EVER and I have had it for about a year...

    Virus scanner
AVG works like a dream always does the job... however I always keep to virus scanners, adaware/ malwarebytes are also usefull.

    Firewall
    XP, I use Zone alarm
Vista, I use PC tools Firewall

Both work fine and very much similar. It would be good to know about your software installed on the computer when using this though because you don't want to block anything you need.

These firewalls will always ask you what to allow so... www.processlibrary.com/directory would be of help.

    anit-Spyware
Spybot search and destroy, never use it, but its there and it works....
