I'm in the market for an inexpensive ($80 or less) DVD burner mostly for PS2 backups. I'm especially looking for one that supports large-TOC games like Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Gran Turismo 3, etc. I'm looking at the NU Technology DDW-082, Samsung SH-W08AEN, and NEC ND-2510.

These are the models I'm basically looking at off of NewEgg.com; I will NOT buy computer hardware from anyone but them, so don't send me to Pricewatch, please. ^_^

If anyone has any good suggestions for a burner on a budget, I'd love to hear them. Speed is not a concern since I'd be burning these at 1x anyway. I will be using Nero 6, but I want to check out DVD Decrypt off of AD as well.

    Any thoughts are appreciated! ^_^

I have a ND2510 and this works fine with ps2 back ups.
The good thing is it is duel layer and some of the games are now starting to come in duel layer format so it is a plus to have a ND2510.The good thing is the price as well you can't go wrong.Another good drive for ps2 back up is the lite-on SOHW-832S which is well worth a look.

yeah, go with the nec. I have an older version one, and all my ps2 backups work great.

    Pioneer 107, Memorex 4X DVD-R, ritek g04

good choice... i also have that drive but its silver. Why the 1x burn speed??? you can burn up to 8x with no errors (ive done it) with memeorex 4x -r's. The backups all work fine

Sounds good enough... know of a good place that sells Memorex on the cheap? Spindles are good; I'm just going to keep a CD wallet full of backups for If The Worst Should Happen. ^_^

Also, does the ND-2510 support DVD9? Or is there firmware updates that will enable it for that? Just wanna be able to back up GTA: San Andreas when I get it...

And Ritek supports PS2 backups? What about bigger games like San Andreas/MGS2: Substance, or what about DVD9?

well, at the moment, dvd9 discs are about $15. Ritek makes them. You are going to need a modchip to play them though.

... he will need a chip no matter what, and from my experiences memorex is just about as good as it gets... no firmware updates needed to burn dl disks just use dvd decryptor and burn.

    Hi,

i'm concerned right now because i'm currently using sony dvd-r to burn my ps2 back ups and they all worked great. 20/20 copies were successful but Modchipworld(the place where i got my chip installed) says that sony dvd-r's have poor quality and will eventually mess up my ps2.

i am thinking about trying ritek out. On the website above the price is pretty cheap

Is this true and if it is, what can i do with all my sony back ups?

How are the Ritek DVD-Rs, anyway? Worth the cheapness? I got my Memorexes on special, but I'd like cheap prices all the time.

Also, for the big games, what are some good DVD-9s to get for a good price that work well?

really, because sony is much more expensive than ritek

is ritek really that good. I'm starting to have doubts cause if it is, i'm going to return my 10 sony dvd-r to staples to buy ritek dvd-r's insted.

    anymore comments?

Ritek are great disc's i have used them for years and had very few coaster. All the coaster i have had has mainly been my own fault on when tampering with other media.Staples is the not quite exspensive for media.

    Thanks

i got my dvd-r's from staples that's why i need to return it there, plus i still have the receipt. So your saying that i should get Ritek dvd-r? If i'm not mistaken i should get G04 right now G03

have your laser in the ps2 showed any sign of wearing out yet?

They both went but i use to use bulk pak with them bad mistake.G04 should treat you ps2 nice as i never use anything else on my xbox.I just wish i had done the same with my ps2.I might still have a working laser in it.I would not just blame the Bulk Pak though i think it may have been the backed up cdr games i use to put in it as well.
