I am a BIG fan of Nero however VSO has a great new Program called ConvertX. This prog will convert and burn, you can edit etc, I trialled it and found it to be an excellent prog and so easy to use.

No doubt others will choose something else, I can only recommend what has worked for me. Cheers and good luck.

ahhhhhhhh Gwendolin...... we should put this question as THE ALL TIME MOST RESQUESTED QUESTION IN AFTERDAWN HISTORY--into the AfterDawn HALL OF FAME!! What's the best program out there with the best quality that burns the best.... THE BEST ..... THE BEST.......

    BEST RIPPER: DVDDecrypter (DVDFab Decrypter)
Best windows based driver that works in the background
to unprotect encryption of a dvd: ANYDVD
BEST QUALITY: DVDRebuilder Pro with CCE
Best PROGRAMS (MATTER OF OPIONION! in no particular order):
    NERO
    CLONEDVD
    DVDFAB PLAT
    SHRINK
    INTERVIDEO DVDCOPY
    IMGBurn
    DVDRemake
    DVD43
    all the VSO software
    (CONVERTXTODVD, COPYTODVD,PHOTODVD,BLINDWRITE)
    DVDINFO PRO

there are many, many more programs that will do the jobs but these are my favs! my 2 cents, my opinions!

Its NOT the software that causes Pixelation(programs anyway) its the quality of media you use and the speed at which you burn.
Using crappy media such as memorex or anything associated with CMC Mag will most certainly cause poor quality burns.

Stick to Verbatim or Taiyo Yudens for a good quality burn and reduce your speed to around 4X.

No to your question re free and commercial versions, all are good depending once again on your media choice.

Like Ihoe mentioned the best for quality and no pixelation is, with out a doubt DVDRebuilder Pro with CCE.

Media surely can be a problem with pixelation, but software also plays a part in it, when there is too much compression, there is going to be a problem with PQ, unless one uses DVD RB Pro, or reduce compression by taking out items of no value, or in some cases doing movie only.

    Cheers,

    Rich

Hmm, best burning software. What exactly does that mean? Best burn utility, best software to make backups?

Best burn utilities would have to include nero, dvd decrypter, and imgburn. Although I don't have it I have heard good things about copy2dvd.

Best software quality wise to backup a dvd is without question dvd-rebuilder pro paired with cinema craft encoder, hc encoder by hanks, or procoder.

As already stated, the most common cause of pixelation is poor quality media or burning too fast but can also be caused by excessive compression.
