Ok I am trying to figure out the best way to keep quality from a digital camera into adobe premiere and then output from adobe onto a dvd. Which is the best format to capture in? Which is the best format to export from premiere. Is there a program that will export into .vob files and keeps supreme quality. I dont care what it costs $2000+ I just want to know what it is. I just want to know how the movie industry does it. If any1 has any insight it would be appreciated.
If your Camcorder is a Digital DV Camcorder then the Video is stored on the Camcorders DV Tape in DV Format so when you capture the Video (It is actually a direct Transfer of Data from the DV Tape to your Hard Drive) it should be in DV AVI format and when doing DV Capture there is no Quality Loss from what is Recorded on the DV Tape and What is On your Hard Drive..... After you have Captured your Video and Have done the editing in Premier you will have 2 options, You can use Adobe premiers Built in Mpeg encoder to Render your Project as a DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 File which would then Just need to be authored to DVD with a DVD authoring program , OR You can render your Project as a DV AVI File and then use a High Quality standalone Encoder to encode the DV AVI file to a DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 File and then author the Mpeg-2 file to DVD.... The Drawback to useing the Mpeg encoder that is Built into Premier is that it isn"t the Highest Quality Mpeg encoder so it will Not Produce the Type of Quality you can get when useing Other Professinal Quality Mpeg encoders.... And the Drawback to Rendering your Project as a DV AVI file and encodeing it with a Good Standalone Encoder is that it will Take a lot longer because you will have to render your edited file to DV AVI first which can take up a bit of Time..... After you have your DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 file you can simply Author the File directly to DVD...Going from a DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 file to Vob/DVD doesn"t have any effect on the Quality and should Only take about 20 minutes after you have all of your Menu"s and Chapters set up...The Mpeg-2 format and the Vob format are the Same format , the only differance is that VOB files uses different PTS Time Code Information that is stored in the IFO and BUP files and Not in the Header of the File it"s self so that is why there is No quality Loss going from Mpeg-2 to VOB..... There are only a small Handfull of professinal Quality Mpeg encoders on the Market and some of them Can even be used as Plugins for Adobe Premier which saves you the Time Rendering your Project as a DV AVI file as you can use one of these Mpeg encoder Plugins to render your Project to Mpeg-2/DVD.... There are the Only Encoders I would Recomend: Tmpgenc Pluss/Express Canopus Procoder(Procoder has a Premier Plugin) MainConcept Encoder (MainConcept has a Encoder Plugin for Premier) CinemaCraft Encoder SP (CCE SP has a Premier Plugin) And For DVD Authoring programs (For Putting the Mpeg-2 file on to DVD with Menu"s and Chapters) My Favorite one Right now is "MediaChance DVDLab Pro" But there are other ones also that are good Like "Sonic ReelDVD 3.1" and "Sonic DVD Producer 5.0" but DVDLab Pro is the easiest to use and the Most Versitile..... I work as a Video editor for a Small Studio in Vancouver so if you need any help in the Video area Just ask..... Cheers
