You could use AnyDVD free trial for 21 days in conjunction with DVD Shrink which is also a free prog. Check out this link on how to use DVD Shrink http://www.dvdplusvideo.com

this question has been asked SO, SO, SO many times that it is not funny, you should try searching through the forums...

but for my two cents i would have to say DVD shrink and AnyDVD and DVDFab decrypter where necessary..

All Newbies want the quick fix! I just don't rely on any one program..... they are all good! Here is my list:

DVDDecrypter (still the king of the Rippers!)
DVDFabDecrypter (just in case DVDD doesn't work! this one gets updates)
    DVDRemake
    DVDRebuilder Pro w/CCE
    DVDFab Express
    DVDCopy3
    DVD43
    AnyDVD
    CloneDVD2
    Nero
    Shrink

one of these programs always works and I hardly have problems any more!

    i agree with aabbccdd

why anyone would want to use anything else,is beyond me
    but each to there own
only CCE dvd rebuilder is better for quality, but sooooo slooooooooow

btw, this must the most popular question in the world, and has been discussed a 1000 times

maybe it needs a sticky,or maybe it already has one..i mean, who reads them anyway.....sarcasism intented

I burned a few logs trying to figure out the right combination for my player. Its old enough that what seemed to be the same copy methods fooled me into frustration. Here is my process now...

    AnyDVD working in the background
    DVD-Decrypter to rip
DVD-Shrink to compress and intiate the burn process
Nero is the burn software that DVD-Shrink initiates

I tried DVD-Clone2, but it just didn't solve my problems. Now that I have a new new burner (BENQ 1640), I think I'm going ot try DVD-Clone2 again because everyone seems to like it.

The transcoders/encoders I have or have tried are dvd shrink, nero recode2, dvdcopy3, clonedvd2, dvdxcopy xpress, and rb/cce and hc encoder by hanks. Of these rb/cce is the best for video quality hands down (especially when excessive compression is required) but lacks in editing features and is slower. By best I assume you mean video quality so rb/cce is the clear winner. The best free combo would be rb/hc encoder by hanks but again lacks in editing features and is slow. The best free transcoder with editing features built in would be dvd shrink. The best transcoder for quality and editing features but not free is clonedvd2. Dvdcopy3 is a little better than clonedvd2 video quality wise and is a little faster but lacks in editing features.

Since I strive to achieve the best quality possible with a dvd5 and like to keep a functional menu, the movie, and most extras, these are the proggys I use and steps taken: Rip with dvd decrypter with anydvd running in the background (I also have dvdfab decrypter). Edit with dvdremake removing previews, warning screens, adverts, trailer/s, and any extras I don't want. If the folder is under 4.38 gb I can then proceed with nero to burn. If folder is just slightly over 4.38 gb I will use dvdcopy3 and save to a folder on my hdd then burn with nero. I normally use rb/cce to encode the trimmed and polished folder since it is usually between 5 and 7.3 gb and burn with nero. I don't notice any loss in video quality on my 52" hdtv even on the folders that were around 7.3 gb prior to encoding. Rb/cce is most excellent. Media I use are verbatum dvd+r hub printables booktyped dvd-rom.

Really simple, almost foolproof, use ANYDVD in conjunction with CloneDVD2, It doesn't give you some of the advanced features of Nero or DVD Shrink, but it gives good results and you can edit out the things you don't want from a particular disk. The only other advice I can offer is, [bold]Use GOOD Media[/bold] like Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, or Verbatim. You can't go wrong.

    just trying to help...

BTW: when i have used AnyDVD in conjunction with CloneDVD it always took a minimum of an hour to backup a movie, it was ridiculous which is why i swithced to shrink and others... anywhose that is my opinion otherwise AnyDVD is probably one of the best software money can buy :)

    9mmruger1,

Thanks again my friend. My 2 goals here are to teach and learn. I hope I'm still doing both. I know the later still applies.
