    I am going to buy another drive asap (today) and I don't want to spend a lot of money. I burn the occasional cd and i burn 3-5 dvd movies per week. I have narrowed it down to:

    NEC ND-3550A
    Pioneer DVR-110D
    BenQ DW1620 Pro
    LG Electronics GSA- 4167B

    I can get any of these drives for about $40 OEM.

    Any one in particular? I am leaning towards the first one (NEC).

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,

    I was looking at getting a new burner myself.

    I was looking at these 2:

    NEC ND-3550A --> IDE (Ultra ATA/DMA-33)
    ---> http://www.nec.co.uk/DVD_RW_ND3550.aspx

    LG GSA-4167B --> IDE (Ultra ATA/66)
    ---> http://us.lge.com/Product/proddetai...tegory_level=4&totalItem=5¤tPage=1&perPage=10

    Wonder if this will make a big difference ATA/33 VS ATA/66 ?

    Just read somewhere the LG-4167B will bootype DVD+R to DVD-ROM.
    Does the NEC-3550A do that ?

    I assume the NEC will be able to do some PI/PO Scanning, but not sure about the LG !

    Anyone ?

    FYI, I went with the NEC ND-3550A Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Beige Burner from supermedia store and even with the 2nd day air shipping, it cost about $52.

    Hi snorkel,

    Does the ND-3550A do PI/PO Scanning ? (Nero CDSpeed or DVDInfoPro) ??

    Can it also booktype DVD+R to DVD-ROM ?

    Thanks for the reply.

    Thats a good choice I have NEC 3500,3520,3540 with modified firmware to alow booktyping.I never had a problem out of them.I also can recomend the BenQ 1640 I have 4 of them and there my new favorite burner they booktype out of the box.Just bought 2 of the BenQ 1655's but have not tryed those out yet but expect they will be just as good and with lightscribe.
