I use the nvidia decoder to play dvd's in wmp but is giving me trouble. I just installed win xp pro and was using this before so i cant think why. My pc spec is p3 700 with geforce ddr (the decoder offloads a lot od the graphics work to graphics card apparently) and i have enough ram for anything as i am a firm believer in it but it keeps lagging now and then.

Im interested in the best software decoder tbh and why it is the best in your opinion. Doesnt have to be wmp plugin.

The Best 3 Software DVD players are "Cyberlink PowerDVD" and "InterVideo WinDVD" and "Sonic CinePlayer" and you should not use WMP to playback DVD"s or Mpeg files because WMP Allways Ignores Aspect ratio Flags so it will never give you an accurate representation of how it would look when Played on your TV set....

    Cheers

I don't know about sonic, but I've used winDVD first and later (currently) PowerDVD, and both are awesome.

I like PowerDVD because it's easy to watch movies ripped on the HD.Very useful after compiling with DVDLab Pro

VideoLAN VLC is a very good and configurable DVD Player (as well as every other format out there, and it's Free)...

I've got windvd 4 on my backup pc:p3 celeron 598 mhz/256 mbs rimm!Beautiful viewing program.

Windvd 5 trial on this pc-I will be replacing it with windvd 6 gold.I only use it to test view my backups and some net videos.

Windvd 6 gold on my piece of crap/broken athlon 3000+ machine.

Excellent players.I just haven't messed around with all the extra features in the windvd 6 gold very much.

I've got powerdvd sitting in a box. It came with my last benq 1620.
