OK I am fairly new to the world of DVD Backup and brand types of DVD-Rs. So I am cerious as to what brand name of DVD-Rs is perferde by most, and to which of the DVD-Rs are of the best quality?

For example my one friend uses nextech and swears by them.

While my other friend uses memorex and says they are of the best out there.

I however am unsure of which side of the faces to be on, or wether there is another side to be on. So I am wondering what is the best quality DVD-Rs out there, Which brand name has the best bang for the buck, I am not cheap so I would pay top dollar for top quality, So Will someone please let me know of which DVD-R or even DVD+R band would have the best quality. Thanks for your help and opinions.

    vexture,
    Welcome to the forum,
Never heard of Nextech and Memorex is crap. The reason Memorex is crap is they have anywhere from 4-6 different manuf doing their disks and there is no quality control.
The preferred blank media to use is usually Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DatalifePlus as they are usually very high quality. Check out Rima.com, Newegg.com, Supermediastore.com or Meritline.com as they usually carry the above disks

    vexture,

Sounds like you need to get some new friends. Only kidding, ;) but they do need to change their media preferences. I'm like Car.Mike never heard of nextech and agree that memorex is some of the worst media there is. Almost any other brand is better than memorex. If your friends don't already have playback issues with their junk media more than likely they will when they try to play them back in 6 months or so.

Two of the best medias on the market are verbatum and taiyo yuden. Sony, fuji (made in japan), and maxell are also considered good by most. Those online stores listed by Car.Mike all have good reputations. Stay away from shop4tech. Good luck and welcome to AD.
