HI all. I have a Toshiba DVD/VCR combo, model # SD-V392SU (may just be considered #SD-V392?). I have been totally unable to playback almost every single burned DVDs ive made using numerous DVD video burning softwre like Nero6, ULead, even some of the DVD Decryptor backed up isos i just backed up to dvds. FOr a little while, like a couple weeks maybe, I was able to play some of the burned dvds which were burned on Memorex +r DVDs okay. But for the past few weeks, maybe only one or two out of around 25 burned dvds (which according to the dvd burning softwares used claim at end of burning process to have successfully completed the burn to DVD video for playback on standalone dvd players) have actually played back. And they are a bit sketch. But most all of these DVDs DO PLAY ON COMPUTER fine, but not on my standalone dvd player. Okay - so Ive yet to go to dvd player stores to try out these DVDs which arent working on my standalone to see if they will work on other dvd players. Im wondering what DVD players people CAN POSITIVELY RECOMMEND for BEST burned DVD-/+Rs playback? It seems from what ive been reading on internet, alot of people have problems with some standalone dvd players playing back created / home burned dvds. I bought my dvd burner specifically so i could create DVDs of my personal home video projects ive made with my video camcorder. But so far its all a huge waste of time & money. And am wondering if the inability to play my burned DVDs back is the problem of the standalone player not the software so much? Best standalone DVD players for playback of burned DVDs?
Note - I have also been burning these DVDs with Verbatim-Rs, after hearing that the Memorex are not so great. But still even with the Verbatims, same problem with non playback on standalone dvd, but works on pc.
Apex are great dvd players +/-R. You may want to run your media threw some disk quality test like nero to see if there are errors causing the problems or player issues. For example my burner seems to like +R media much better than -R as far as errors on the disk. Testing on verbatum, tiayo yuden and maxell. Speed does make a diffrence to and is something you will have to experiment with slower does not necessarly mean less errors on disk. The apex has played everything I've stuck in it. I have even burned MPEG2 files to dvd and it plays them too. It's probally not the best quality drive but plays alot of media. Sony players will play +R media very well. One other note if you can change the book type on your burner that should help too. I know nero has this option book type +R and +RDL media to DVD-ROM. Good Luck Spacedust
Great Thread. There is nothing worse that getting sucked into a good movie, then having the player start skipping all over the place. My Cyberhome DVR-1600 DVD recorder, which requires +R disks for recording on it, skips when playing back certain DVD's burned on my pc. (all disks created on my PC have been +R, and I always run Verification in the burn process) Meanwhile, I've got a Mintek 5" portable DVD player that plays ALL my home-spun DVDs. Many times, I've been in the middle of a movie on the Cyberhome, have watched it start playing poorly, and have had to switch to the Mintek to finish the movie(ironicly patching it into the Cyberhome's front panel input jacks). Normally, I would blame differences in media or other fencepost issues, but the fact that my portable is happy and my Cyberhome recorder is not leads me to conclude that the player is the main culprit here. Anyone got any suggestions? I'm all ears on players that behave with burned DVDs.
lately, I have been using TDK dvd-r's...They are great, worked in my Ps2, Sony dvd, apex, and something else but I forgot that name..lol...I love Tdk and verbatim media...also burn at slow speed..i burn at 3x...maybe use other media...
This is a great thread, thanks. I am ready to replace my old Panasonic RV30 player as it won't play any of my Maxell DVD-R burns. I use DVD Shrink and DVDFab Decryptor. They play flawlessly on my laptop. Can anyone recommend a replacement DVD player that will play my burned DVD's?
