I am looking for the best external analog to Firewire capture device. I am going to be doing vhs-dvd transfers. I am doing camera to dvd now with a digital camcorder. I need a device to hook a VCR to and capture from VHS.

    Thank you in advance.

Well the Very Best one would be the "Canopus ADVC-1000" but it runs about $2000 ,In a More reasonable Price range you would either choose between the "Canopus ADVC-100" or the "Canopus ADVC-300"..
The differance between these 2 devices is that the ADVC-300 have a Digital Image Stabilizer and a Digital Noise Filter and a TBC(Time Based Corrector), and that the ADVC-100 is about $250 and the ADVC-300 is about $500...If you want an Internal PCI device that does the exact same thing and is a bit cheaper than the ADVC-100 then the "Canopus ACEDVio" is a Good device....
Canopus Makes the Best Consumer Video editing/Capture Devices and Profecinal Broadcasting equipment arround and they are generally cheaper than Matrox and better Quality...There are some Links:

    Canopus ADVC-55

    Canopus ADVC-300

    Canopus ADVC-1000

    Canopus ACEDVio

PS: the Prices stated on the Canopus Web site are a Lot more expensive that you can find at other places, you can find some products up to 25% cheaper ...Cheers
