    After just getting a new Gamecube with Qoob Pro chip installed, and my full size DVDR cover installed, i decided to try my DVDR i have sitting around my house, 16X DVD-R and DVD+R Memorex. Neither want to play in the Gamecube, so I guess I need to order some new full size media... Whats the best full size to use and whats the best deal right now...Links would be great...Thanks

    DVD-R don't wprk on my GC at all. Only the minis do and they are so expensive. I bought a 50 pck from Meritline of the Ritek Ridata Minis and only 4 games worked out of it all! But it's weird since i got some optodisc and they work fine.

    I cuarrently use Verbatim 16x DVD+R and the lowest it will let me burn is 6x. Are there brands out there that will burn at just 4x, cuase i get some DRE's on 6x. Can't reduce burning speed in any program(nero/imgburn).

    Help!!!

    I've been using Verbatim 16x DVD+R's too, and they've worked great for me so far. My Burner let's me burn them at 4x (but then again, that's the max speed my burner goes. I'd complain but it's reliable as hell, never a bad burn). I think the media code on them is MCC 004 if I recall correctly.

    zombie_x,
    I would try looking for a firmware update for my burner if I were you. I don't know if that would help, but mabey, you never know until you try. http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php That's the place to look for your firmware. Hope it helps. :)

    The [bold]only[/bold] DVD-/+R you should trust are the ones that say made in Japan. Wouldn't go for them Maxell as they do not clearly state made in Japan.

    Granted Malcdogg is on the right lines however if you are wanting to make backups that will last longer than 6 months then I can't stress enough that the only reliable media is Verbatim (MCC*****) or (TYG02), Taiyo Yuden (TYG02) or Maxwell MADE IN JAPAN, and always make sure for ISO images PS2/XBOX/GC you always use 4x or 8x media and burn at half the graded media speed ie 4x at 2x, 8x at 4x. Don't buy 16x as this is known to cause troubles (just take a look at all the threads in Afterdawn).

    Newbs check this site out as it is a good starting line for identifying good media;

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

    Also that link to meda was in England as I am, use this link as they go into full detail of what media code you are buying therefore you won't have any trouble avoiding CMC MAG's;

    http://svp.co.uk/index.php

    PS Malcdogg can you post a PIE/PIF screenshot of 16x Verbs (MCC***) and I will compare with my 8x Taiyo Yuden.

    Regards

    Lol, I wasn't lying when I said those Maxell's work flawlessly!

    I'll ask one of the DVD-Rs where it's from when I get home and see if it replies in Japanese. When you say you can't trust them non-Japanese, do you mean like, trust the alone with your girlfriend or they'll steal your Hi-Fi or something?

    Yes I wasn't saying you were. All I'm doing is providing you all with enough information to decide for yourself what media would work now and 6 months down the line.

    If people can't be arsed to read what information is given to them then they shouldn't clutter afterdawn's servers up with the same old questions over and over again and better yet don't deserve to be helped.

    Lol.

    Thought I'd add that I stay clear of Datawrites now. Had a bad batch of those before.

    Yeah you're right, it would be nice if play.com put the media code in their desciption.

    paul1085,
    I wanted to help you with those scan but for some reason I can't get them going with either Nero CD-DVD Speed, or DVDInfo Pro. Here's some screenshots of it not working...

    [IMG]

    As you can see, DVDInfo just freezes there and does nothing...

    http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/5710/nero3nw.jpg

    And Nero won't even try to start. If you've got any ideas i'm more then willing to do the scans, just for the sake of doing them. Even though i'm pretty sure the Taiyo Yuden's will do better. If it weren't for the fact that I have to order the Yudens online, I would probably be using those myself.

    Sorry just been at the local pub,
    Anyways, this ISO isn't that big (kingkong PS2) however it is quite old as I wanted to demonstrate how even with age the PIE/PIF is still quite impressive;
    [IMG]

    Ps the reason why it says 35% done is because the ISO is only 1.5GB however to be honest I couldn't be arsed to wait for the rest as it would have displayed 0 all the way till the end.

    To anybody reading this and wondering about it, I think whether you use TY or Verbatims you'll be doing better then 90% of people out there. A lot of them use whatever media is the cheapest, not even thinking about quality. And they pay for it a little while down the road.

    TYs and Verbatims are very good quality DVDs and if you make a backup with one it will last longer then 6 months.
