I would like to know what video card or other device for the computer I can use to capture video from a vhs or tv to the computer in order to burn it to dvd? for example my nvidia gf2 vivo uses ulead video studio but it capture video using too much space! other software will give me crappy quality.
The Best Quality would be if you used a Hardware DV Encoder Device Like the Canopus ADVC-100 or the Canopus ACEDVio...These device use Hardware Digital Compression to Compress the Incomeing signal from Analogue to Digital DV AVI format so it uses no Software for Compression..... These devices also have an audio Lock feature that Locks the audio and Video together at the Time of capture so there is Never any Chance of Going out of Sync and the Quality is Superb... It will still take up quite a Bit of Disk Space for these DV AVI files and you will need to have a seperate Hard drive Just for capture because if you use the Drive your OS is installed on it will not be Fast enough to Write the data to the Drive....The Captured Files will take up about 12 to 15gb per Hour of Video and it captures the Files to DV AVI format which is the same Format the Digital Camcorders are Shot in and a Lot of Newer Movies are shot in this format because it is such a High Quality format..("Star Wars: Attack of The Clones" was the First Big Movie ever shot entirely in Digital) After captureing the Files to DV AVI they need to be encoded to Mpeg2 for DVD and then authored to DVD.. These devices aren"t cheap but they are Cheaper than any other device that would Produce simular Quality.. They Run between $175 and $250 US and they do not have a Built in TV Tuner so to capture TV shows you will need to use the TV tuner in your VCR or a cable Box....Cheers
I'll get that, so which one of the two would be better to get? and what other recommendations will you give me?
Well those 2 Devices Basicly do the same thing so they will produce about the same quality But the ADVC-100 is an External Capture device that hooks up to your PC through a Fireware Port, were the Canopus ACEDVio is an internal PCI Card..... I would Personally go for the Canopus ACEDVio because it is a Bit Cheaper and it is Internal which i like.. If you Look on Ebay you will find the Best deals on these Devices, i have seen the ACEDVio for as Low as $169 on Ebay and they go for allmost Twice that much if you go through a Retailer..... These Devices will work with Most all Editing/Capture programs like Adobe premier but if you don"t plan on doing much editing then you can use a Capture program Like "WinDV" or "Scenalizer Live"....... Cheers
