I am going to purchase hardware for video editing. I want to use adobe premiere pro software. I was advised one person to buy a Sony computer with extra hard drives. Another person said to just buy components from Dell. Utlimately I want to be able to create videos from camcorders and integrate sound, special effects, etc, as well as place stills within the videos and also to use the same hardware to run adobe photoshop. It must be clear that I am just starting out. If you were in my place (I learn fast once I have the right stuff) and wanted to get the best setup so that I don't constantly have to add or upgrade as I go along, what would you purchase? I would also want to be able to use the same setup to do my other general computer stuff. Please answer in plain English, like you are talking to an old person...which I sorta am. I would appreciate all the extra stuff (video cards, how much memory, arrays, etc. you think I will need. Thanks!

    hi, im thinking
    - 240Gb diskspace (2 drives x 120Gb each in RAID 1 mode)
-DV capable camera or good quality video in/out card (ex Canopus ACEDVio )
    - amount of memory isn't really as important as the overall system bandwidth ..depends on your setup but anything recent is acceptable

i personally put together something very similar myself, and i get excellent quality

Thanks! What type of computer and what type of monitor do you have?
    Do you run Premiere Pro?
