    Hi people!
Thanks for your ideas on my previous thread, it worked a treat!
but this time im spoiled for choice. Can anyone tell me the best make and type of blank dvd to use? TDK, Sony, Verbatim etc. dvd+r's or dvd-r's I keep getting conflicting stories about different makes and formats, so i thought i'd ask the guys who know!
    Cheers!

How do you define "best"? Is price a criterion? Is availability a criterion? And just who are the "guys who know"? You will get conflicting information here, too. If one is looking strictly at compatibility, uniformity, and consistent production, then Taiyo Yuden DVD discs are the best choice for standard discs. Verbatim DL media from Singapore are the best choice for DVD+R DL discs.

The choice between DVD+R and DVD-R depends on both your recording drive and the DVD players you intend to use for playback. There is little inherent difference in quality between the formats.

Several other manufacturers can make batch lots as good as the discs I have mentioned, but their production consistency is not as uniform; and their compatibility with the majority of drives in the market is not as good. (This is the chief reason why Taiyo Yuden has avoided entering the DL market in Europe and the U.S.: their DL discs would not be supported by the vast majority of existing DL drives, and the self-proclaimed "experts" would start screaming about quality no matter how good the discs were.)

mrcrowman- What the esteeemed Joeryan said !! I'm on the other side of the pond ! but I'm sure someone in the U.K. Must sell Taiyo Yuden ? If not I would got with Verbatim ( Made in Taiwan ) if I could get it in Retail/Branded Media And Verbatim Made in Singapore Dvd+R DL's for DL media ! Barring those two I would Put Sony Made in JapaN if you can Find some OR The Made in Taiwan Sony's ( The Made in Japan Sony's can Be Taiyo Yuden or Sony I have gotten both before And the Sony(MIJ)/taiyo yuden is great stuff and The Sony? Made ( MIDcoded ) Made in Japan disc are atleast as Good as their Made in Taiwan Mediwhich I have found to be Very good as far as quaility& consistency goes ! So Search around the Internet for a Online retailer in the U'k. or Go Verbatim or sony hope that helps !!!
