DVD-RB Pro with CCE SP at 9 passes. That'd be the best way to go.

Yikes!!! 2 grand, nice if you can afford it! Anything in the consumer range that stands out from the pack or is it 6 of 1 half a dozen of another?

Well there is CCE Basic which is, i believe $60, but he didn't say anything about price, he said best quality.

Does the basic package perform better than others in its class?

Idk what you mean by it's class but it's probably the best encoder to backup movies with( other than maybe the SP version).

By class I mean LOW price - $60 would be in a price class with Nero or Roxio.

If by Nero you mean Nero Recode, then yes CCE Basic is better. Recode is a transcoder, and CCE is an encoder and CCE produces a lot better quality and works especially good for long movies.

And I've never used Roxio so i don't know what it can do.
