Yea, I was wondering if there was a "best pick" for a replacement OS for the X-Box and how to install it. I'm new to this and I've never opened my X-Box and I don't plan to, that's why I've ruled out chips. Can someeone help?

look, invest the 30 bucks in an inexpensive spider chip its 30 bucks and its solderless.
    go to http://www.copying-xbox-games.com/tutorials.php?tutorialid=00000035

then dl the "OS" i think you mean dash:
    www.aid.xbox-hq.com
if you really meant OS, then ed's debian is sweet.

if you really want to be cheap, but it will still cost you, see the instructions for "SID" at www.aid.xbox-hq.com (soft mod installer)
it is very limited however and wont let you do half the things you can do by spending the extra 20 bucks seeing that you probably spent 10 bux on the soft mod stuff like usb cables.
