Hi all,I am currently using an ECS nforce3-250 m/b with sempron 3100+ paris that is running slightly oc-d @ 2ghz.(stable) but I still have not satisfied my need/greed for speed.I'm trying to adhere to a budget and would like to avoid taking the s939 plunge (atleast for now) so I am here once again asking for your suggestions, and of course any and all will be appreciated.
Hi wrench, The Semprons are okay but only 256KB cache (they are inexpensive). You can get a genuine Athlon64 3000+ for Socket754, 2.0GHz speed and 512KB cache, but you better hurry! Socket754 CPUs are drying up, soon there will be only Semprons... Here is a (Canadian) link to CPU http://www.pccanada.com/viewitem.asp?id=1584 Also quite affordable, and the best CPU your mobo could have. Regards
Hi and thanks for the reply,I was looking at the 3700+ but it's too pricey,I am looking into the a64/3200+ (2.0ghz.1 mb.cache)I found at newegg.com for $140.00 or the a64/3400+ for $10.00 more also at newegg.Which would you recommend? I plan on using it for video encoding and gaming. Thanks again,B.W.
i think the highest that the socket 754 athlons go is only 3400.. make sure that 3700 is definately a 754 pin before you buy it
Hi guys, heres the link check it out http://www.nanosys1.com/cpu-amd-64-3700-oem.html and heres another http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1035206
just to let you know, the AMD athlon 3400 socket 754 is also 2.4GHz and its cheaper than that 3700, take a look at the 3400s http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103609
Thanks Sypher, the difference is the cache..3400=512kb and 3700=1mb. and it's to late anyway I ordered before I hit the hay this morning. Anyway now I can be satisfied knowing I have the best and biggest of the breed.(s 754 that is)
