I'm trying to figure out what's the best codec to compress mpeg1 to avi format. I use christv to record programs. Now, I'd like to save to avi format, but I've been having problems getting them to look good. I've used xvid codec, but end up having to put the bitrate to 1600 kbps to make it look decent. Divx is the same thing. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can keep it looking good & still around 700mb (for a movie)? Attached is a screenshot of my settings that I'm using.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I've been using virtualdub mpeg & it's hard to get it to look decent. No matter what I've done to keep it smaller in size, it looks pixelly.
