i have a collection of dvds i plan to rip to my computer and export on to an external HDD so i can play them through my ps3. ive used dvdshrink and dvd decrypter in the past, but was wondering if theres been any software innovation in this area. im looking for the highest quality i can get with the lowest file size possible.

(NOTE:mp4 really seems to agree with the ps3)

thanks in advance to anyone who answers:)

    Not sure what you're asking.
If your looking for the current best advice for ripping, see the
"DVD ripping" forum right here on afterdawn.

If you're looking for info on a conversion format, by all means
use the mp4/avc codec. Good quality @ smaller file sizes VS.
    divx or xvid.

ive looked through the forum, was just hoping i could get some software and codec recommendations. ive heard of a few that are great for high quality like x264. im not looking to get full hd out of ntsc dvd's. just want to get the best i can at the lowest size possible.

Then try Megui and convert to mp4/H264. Here's some info:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/x264.cfm

Alternatively, ffdshow has an H.264 encoder, you can encode
that from Virtualdub and keep the movie as an avi.

Give it a try and see if the ps3 likes it or not.

you should just use mkv or mp4. file sizes are WAY smaller. up to 80% compression
