Sorry if you have seen this before, but couldn't find a definitive answer. What software is best for ripping dvds, I have tried dvd shrink, but the copies 'gliched'. I have also tried dvd x-copy version 4.0.2.3 but not everything would copy (alien films would not copy, software hung after reading). I have also tried dvd decripter with no success. I have a nec 2500 dvd writer running on a 1.7 P4. Is there a single piece of software that does everything or is it best to encode in one software and burn with another.
The Best Software? It actually is a good question, unfortunately all you will get is opinion answers. There is a tremendous amount of software out there and everyone usually uses what is best for them. I prefer Dvd Shrink, Nero, and Dvd Decryptor, I have had zero problems with this set. Some will tell you they like Dvdclone, Smartripper, or Dvd2one, they are also great pieces of software, but cost money. Some people love DvdXcopy (I have no idea why, but to each there own). There really is no one piece that is the best, it just all boils down to what works for you. The best advice that I can give, would be to get some Dvd-rw and try out the different programs out there and find one that works right for you. The only other thing I can say is to use good solid media. Crappy media will cause more problems and produce more coasters than the worst software out there. Get some Ritek, ProDisc, or Verbatim media. They are all good as many people on this site will tell you. You said you had "gliched" copies when using some programs? Your media may be the culprit. The bottom line is that good software is all the opinion of the user, but bad media is just bad media. You will save yourself a lot of headaches down the road. Also, I don't know if you did or not, but take a tour through some of the old forum posts, this site has some of the best info on the web and it is all at your finger tips if you are willing to look for it.
HI mccoy5, If you are looking for free software the choices in the above post are your best bet. If you don't mind paying for something that works excellent, I would buy CloneDVD2. It is a complete program that is easy to use but needs a decrypter like AnyDVD or DVD43 to run in the background with it. CloneDVD and AnyDVD cost aboout $40. each but DVD43 is free. There are full working trial downloads of Clone and AnyDVD to see if you like the way it works. I haven't used any other backup software since I got CloneDVD. Jerry
