best tv for xbox 360/ps3

Sorry if there's a post for this already but I really need to know what tv I should get for xbox360/ps3 usage. The kind of tv that wouldn't get messed up from gaming. Any kind of help would be appreciated, thanks.

 

If money is no object get a 1080p display from Sony (the SXRD series)or Samsung. Or go for broke and get a 1080p projector like the Sony VPL-VW100 paired with s Stewart Firehawk 16:9 screen.

 

All TV's sold new these days aren't going to be damaged by video games.

 

would i be able to get the best graphics out of xbox360/ps3 from a tv costing less or about $1000?

 

The Xbox 360 cant even put out a 1080p signal.....I like the Toshiba 30HF66. I got that and an Xbox 360 and I think its a good combonation, graphics and everything are good.

 

So a xbox 360 wouldn't work with a 1080p tv? Isn't the 1080p gonna be the best a ps3 can do? Can I get a 1080p tv for $1000 Sorry if this is such a newbie question... Thanks for the responses though!

 

dude seriously, right now, forget 1080p
if youre moving up from standard 480, then 720p or 1080i will look incredible to you.
I have a Pioneer SD530 53 inch rear proj 1080i, it has (still) one of the best interlacers in the business, Colour saturation, blacks, etc its all incredible when playing ES oblivion, COD2, etc
even in standard progressive DVD the picture looks amazing.
really it depends on you
dont buy a tv because you hear its better, go and look at one, even take your 360 with you. Hell they want a sale, theyll let you.
But also remember your home conditions and settings will differ.
TV's in shops are set to extreme high (high contrast and black/white settings)
The main thing you need to remember is, are you gonna play a long time on a tv? if so then IF you go with crt, make sure it has image / picture change options (changes the static mages, hence saves from phospor burn) to a degree plasma sufer this too.
DLP and LCD however do not suffer from this. But they cost more (in general)
Personally (and this is my own choice) I would buy a DLP TV, the only downside being lamp replacement costs........BUT you never get degraded picture quality.
And theres also projectors which are very affordable now, a good projector and a decent big screen, can really bring out the WOW factor!
HD isnt everything, not all HD are created equal.
........by rule of thumb, read reviews like epinions etc, just to get the idea on build quality.

ALL CRT tvs (without exception) can suffer from the static images displayed on a video game, there are still MANY crt tv's being sold, both standard and HD, and standard plasma tv's also can suffer from screen burn but in general there are fewer complaints with plasma -and plasma technology is improving, wheras CRT is, and always will be until a new type of tube is developed, going to have problems with phosper "burn in" from static images. HD or not.
I find the best way around screen burn for a phosper crt tube is
1 / turn down the contrast
2/ buy a tv with changable screen size (often displayed as zoom, cinema wide etc, then every hour or so, change the viewing size)
3/ dont play a game with static images more than 2 hours in a given day.

 

i'd say don't buy a tv yet...

just play ur 360 on ur pc monitor for now,wait a year
and then buy a ps3 and a 1080p tv...

Well thats a huge pain in the ass.


You dont really have a huge selection due to your price range, but if you can get a LCD or DLP capable of 640P, you'll be flyin.

T.Vs nowaday are the type of thing that need alot of research. What may look nice on a picture or in store may not be best for your living room.

Go to a store, find one you like in your price range then read lots of reviews on it. Thats my advice.

 

If your going to play games stay away from Plasma TV's the games will burn a images in the screen.Most LCD are fine the only Brand i heard to stay away from was RCA.RCA got a bulb problem in there LCD TV's.Before you buy anything checkout the www.consumer report.com.

 

most of the tv's i've seen stores such as bestbuy use for their 360 are SAMSUNG... so maybe that'd be a good brand?

 

Hey, my old man bought a Philips 32" HD LCD TV

I'm just wondering the best way to connect my 360 to get HD.

It has NO component input.

It has a scart inputs.
It has a video input.
It has a DVI input.


With my 360 I have a component cable and a VGA cable.

Is my best course of action, buying a DVI male to VGA female gender changer?

This could work but just remember that VGA is analog and I think the Philips has a DVI-D (digital) input.

I thought I had it all sorted out. I take it analog/digital are no way compatible? I think I've just threw £20 down the drain by buying the gender changer.

Can anyone confirm if a philips DVI connection can connect to a VGA cable, so I can try to cancel my order?

 

forget that. its alredy been said that the PS3 (with a hands on review - http://games.kikizo.com/news/200602/065_p1.asp) cannot play intense games at 1080P as the framerate will simply be 2 slow for playability. unless there non demanding games.

 

I got my 1080P tv (a Sony SXRD) not for the games but in anticipation of Blu-Ray and HD DVD movies. ricetrack: I think you should be able to get a decent 720p Samsung DLP for your budget.

 

thanks eatsushi... would a samsung 720p lcd suffer those burns?i was also thinking of getting a sony sxrd for the living room, so would that tv be fine for gaming as well? because we were supposed to get a plasma but i hear those suffer the burn ins...

 

Here are a few tips for buying a TV(of the top of my head)

1.Avoid rear projection TVs, what you save in money in buying them you will pay back 10x over in new bulbs.
2.If you get an LCD try and get one with X-BLACK(a special coating that goes over the screen)
3.Make sure it has a HDMI port, most future equipment is coming out with HDMI leads as standard
4.Make sure that the DVI/HDMI ports have HDCP(almost every TV does now, but make sure anyway)
5.Try and get you TV as big as possible, you only really notice the HD with TVs that are 32' or bigger(I have 27' one and it's hard to tell the difference)
6.If you are getting a PS3 then try and get a TV with 1080P
7.Don't buy cheap plasma screens, you might get away with cheap LCD, but cheap plasma will burn after a couple of years.

Like he said "try" for those things, not must have. Like if you find the one you like in your budged but it has no HDMI, dont worry about it, you can always get an adapter.
