Be careful with LCD's, many look tempting but still have 16ms response time. That would work for movies, but will suck for games.
Its the delay time the screen takes to refresh. If the refresh rate is too slow than any fast movement would have a blurred trailer following. For example, if your watching Nascar and the cars are going fast on the screen the car will have a blurred image following. .... my description is kinda lame so here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Response_time In my oppinion for gaming you want a screen that has at least 8ms response time.
Actually refresh rate is different from response time. Response time refers to LCD displays and is expressed in milliseconds while refresh rate refers to CRT displays and is expressed in Hertz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refresh_rate
Thxs Logik666 & eatsushi.Okay im about to buy a Westinhouse 37 inch LCD for 1600.It goes up to 1080p could one of you guys look up the spec on that LCD and tell me if its a good buy.Model: Westinghouse LVM-37W3 LCD display.Thxs
This Westinghouse model has created a lot of buzz at another forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=655280&page=1&pp=30
@ Eatsushi: What is corner bleeding & lockup issue they are talking about.Im sorry i dont know but thxs a million for your help.
"Bleeding" or "color bleeding" is the blending of different colors on a display with ususally undesirable results. As far as I can tell from the 30+ pages of posts in the thread this is more of a problem with the previous models (the 37W1). I still have to get to the part about the lockup issue. The guys in AVS Forum really know their stuff.
@DamonDash, I say go for it my friend. Like alot of HDTVs non HD signals dont look great on it. It does 1080P which is fantastic so its good for now and in the furure. The only complaint I saw about it is the remote that comes with it but thats an easy fix and you shouldnt let that deture you. Bottom line is there is alot of bang for the buck,... which is always a good thing.
i am getting a 27 inch hdtv lcd samsung. it wil cost me a little, but i have seen it in action and it looks great.
ricetrack : didnt read the whole thread but i have to disagree with most ppl crt tube are the best quality as tv can get... the xbox 360 highest res will be 1080i and 1080 p is better p= progressive i= interlanced... all non hd tvs are 480p then theirs 720p ( most xbox 360 games) then 1080i .... projection is diffrent then crt tubes.. the crt tubes will NEVER burn in images... AND ARE EXTREAMLY CHEAP... now the only bad side to them is 2 things... its big bulky and hevy ( 250 pounds) and they dont make size bigger then 42'' widescreen hdtv... i have a 16x9 hdtv 1080i widescreen.... 250 pounds and its the best ... i wouldnt trade it for anyting new not even those crapy plasmas... they have flaws... angle to angle looks bad very bad... however as the sencond or 3rd person said the sony sxrd or so its based on siloicon so it doesnt suffer like other plasmas that have ink inside ... crt = best tv ...
alright guys so i've decided to just get the the 60" sony sxrd for our living room... i'm thinking of getting a sony KLVS23A10 for my bedroom... would this be good enough for gaming? i have a small bedroom so i'm trying to maximize space by getting a flat panel.
The KLVS23A10 should be a good choice for your bedroom and should be great for your 360 thru the component connection. Reserve the HDMI for the PS3. It's resolution should give you a good 720p picture. But if I were you I would just use the 60 inch SXRD in the living room for everything!
Ive been playing my xbox360 on my 15" pc monitor it looks alright but im now looking into getting something with 1080i ive seen a HD 32 inch flat tube crt and a dell lcd flat pannel 24" widescreen wich one should i buy and wich one wont have the effects of the image burning into the screen? Thanks
I STRONGLY recommend the crt tube... you will NOT get image burn in... i have a 38'' widescreen 16x9 hdtv 1080i and i wouldnt trade it for anyitng in current tech on tvs.. so the 32'' is the one i recommend between both.... and it looks ALOT better then the slim tv.. why? just 1 example.... look it the slim tv from one angle and it looks like shit but on a crt tube it looks perfect... theirs alot of reasons but i put as noob as possible. oh and if you want to see true tv make sure its always a widescreen 16x9 ... vs a tridinal 4x3
Dang, wish I could afford the big hdtv.Hey maybe they'll come down a little though.Personaly for me it would be... hdmi or dvi,12ms or lower,hd component, flat panel hd lcd,a cool stand. Some cheap but good one's are magnavox(owned by philip's) and polaroid. These may seem like weak brands but they do everything that the big guys like sony and panasonic do without stooping so low like those brands you never herd of lol. Thanks for the info yall.
Ricetrack, I bought a 26inch HDTV LCD made by Magnavox. It has a built in HD tuner and also plays in 1080i. The picture is awesome and I only payed 779.00 for it. That would be perfect for your bedroom because of the clarity of the picture. Plus I'm thinking about buying the New Sony 50 inch Grand Wega SXRD LCD Projection Tv. It's the badest tv on the planet right now but it is also expensive at 3200 bucks. I would suggest you buy this one for your living room and buy the Magnavox for you living room since you stated it is small. The the screen clarity is awesome for a small bedroom. I saw the 60 inch version you are thinking about getting but I compared the 50 and 60 inch Sony's together and noticed that the 50 inch had a better picture. Well hope this was usefull to you, Good luck.
i am not trying to brag and stuff.. but crt tubes also have hd integreaded ... so you just plug your ant and you can get atsc which is all hd channels for free and non hd ... ( analog) and crt tubes LOOK best and LAST longest and are ALOT ALOT cheaper... for a slim tv plasmas lcd etc etc for those to not burn the image in you WILL spend alot of cash... and i mean alot.. see a crt tube would only require calibration after 10 years.. which by then u got new tv n e ways.,.. as where plasmas lcds etc etc those have ink insied so they are heated gas ohh yes that means if you poke the crap out of them they are gone not eve the extended warranty covers it because they will even tell you dont touch the screen... as where a crt sufer NOTING from all the newer tech tvs.. hell i even have a non hd in my room 27'' and i would not trade it for a gay plasma or lcd because mine will look better.. honestly think about it image burn ins are more likely the tv is more expensive and if you look from a angle it looks shit ... so why they made it? because ppl complain of how much space a crt tube based tv takes ... as where i say what you look for on a tv? quailty or space saving? and thats your answer.. my next door nevoir bout a new hd plasma 6000 + and said wtf wrong with his that doesnt look HALF as good as mine ... and im like thats just how it is period... so if you want cheap and best quality then the crt is for you .. if u have money falling off the sky and want only the best then a new hd plasmas with 1080p that cost over 7 gs is for you ...
