CRT displays are not immune from burn in. http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ISSUES/what_sets_avail.html CRT has its advantages and disadvantages:
overall i think crt tube is the best bang for your buck.. i mean think about it what you want space saving or quality? 2) i'd rather pay 500 bucks more being crt tube , but in this case the plasma/lcd is more expensive.. do somtin quick mesure the place where the tv sits in front of you. then compare both tvs ( crt vs plasma/lcd) and then look it from another angle and you see what i mean... not only its crappy but more expensive too!... so unless you want to spend alot money (over 7gs) for a best tv plasma like then your better off buyin a crt tube.
@ricetrack: Congratulations on your choice of the Sony 60 inch SXRD for your main display. Here are links to great reviews on this set and some screenshots from a very satisfied owner: http://froogle.google.com/froogle/reviews?fq=sony+sxrd+60+inch&cid=1590a27a8e4ae866&hl=en http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=1338 http://www.avrev.com/equip/sony_60_inch_sxrd/ http://www.hd-gamer.com/pics/kdsr60xbr1/hdtv_stills/HDTV_Stills2.html
Logik666 Its not a huge pain really contrast is set WAYYYYY too high by most people you can get the prefect setup of picture by getting your tv ISF calibrated or doing it the cheaper (yet not as good ) way of calibrating it yourself with digital video essentials DVD Ive played Elder Scrolls Oblivion for 6 hours or so continuous, moved the picture positiuon an inch or so after 2 hours play to be safe doesnt really bother me too much rear proj CRT CAN have bigger issues because the CRT tubes are dirven much harder than standard CRT. still worth it when you consider the price advantages over plasma etc can get my TV for like $1,200, which is great for a 53in 1080i
Gus with regards to burn in it really depends how you use your tv. In theory any crt tube is prone to burn in from EXTENSIVE static imagry. Just go in an arcade and look at video game cabinets, or the big screens of sega rally 2 etc. BUT having said that, not all video games have static images on screen Also, I was talking about rear projection CRT which is the big screen cheaper alternative and they commonly get burn in because of tv logo's, video games, and contrast too high, but with common sense you can avoid it, just dont go to sleep with the game on pause (although they have very nicely added screen saver type options on games too, ES oblivion has the rotating on screen game view when paused for a while) usually 2 hours a day is fine for any setting, but if you lower contrast, youre much better off. its definately the cheapest and best way to get into big screen hdtv though
BTW the best place to watch any tv is in front of it Rear proj might look crap at 45 deg angles but then, to get the best from a tv, use 5.1 surround, sit in front bliss)) I have the best possible setup for $2,000, which includes my TV and a bose 5.1, for the price, nothing comes near.
One more thing re-colour bleeding GET A TV THAT HAS MULTI POINT CONVERGENCE!! ITS ESSENTIAL!- dont gte an RCA, convergence is awful on them, and settings are minimal the pioneer SD53 has incredible convergence controls, and you can get the picture looking amazing, clear, sharp and no red/green/blue bleeding
Many experts think CRTs still produce the best pictures, but those other technologies are getting closer every year. Few CRT sets will draw both 1080i and 720p. Most will draw one and require the tuner to convert the other. A 720p-only CRT set will not work with an external tuner that converts everything to 1080i so crt are still the best.,... keep in mind diffresnse between crt tube and crt projectors are a diffrense. djboogie ... honesltyh i play over 7 + hrs 360 xbox 1 watch alot of tv dvds and i have NOT gotten over 1 image burn in , i PROUDLY own a 38'' widescreen 1080i hdtv crt tube direct view from rca and its the best... well who would be dumb enough to spend just simply 500 dollars and over and not buy a warrnty from circuicit city or best buy? lmfao it very useful. oh and my settings contrast and so on are optimsed meaning i tamperd and made it better and noting bad has happened over the past 5 or so years of always consitenly using it ... not 1 fox logo burn in or carrtonetwork or so on. but thx for your info , btw : a home thearter like you ARE going to need to spend over 2 gs,, i have a an amp from onkyo ... just that cost over 700 bucks erh it cost 1 G? my subwoofer cost more then the average 5.1 auido systems... over 600 bucks.. and i have set up 6 spkrs and the sub so 6.1 ... and thats not even the rest of my hometheater , i own a 400 dvd player a 301 a 201 and so on , i have over 1,000 original dvds. .. heheh i guess im just a fantic to dvds and HOME ENTERTAMINET. and you bet i know alot of thse kinda of tech.... anways for the other readers check also this Should I buy one of these sets? Adults who understand the consequences can generally avoid serious burn-in. But kids present some uncertainty. If you have kids and a limited budget then you should keep in mind: If you buy a CRT set with an incomplete warranty then you are taking some risk. [bold]It is generally a mistake to connect a video game to a plasma or projection CRT set.[/bold] but they also mentioend crt projector... as i said it projector diffrent from a crt tube based set . so end result i think plasmas arent any good til the new ones arrive on the coming years... with the exception of a new fouly silicon based tv... the angle effect was almost gone... but i still would buy a crt tube....
I have a 360 and i want just a a lil monitor but i dont know if this 19 inch monitor is any good and if it has native 720p can some one please tell me kus im sick of playing it on a regular 480i TV. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824160004 Please if any one could tell me its any good that be greatt THNX
@zippy255: It will not display 720p as it does not have component inputs. You have to get the VGA adaptor as you cannot use DVI.
ok what is everybodys problem with plasma it seems to me that everyone is bias against them, and im not saying that you should get one im just saying i dont think they are near as bad as you all make them out to be, i think they have many pros such as that they arent that expencive, they have better picture than lcd and they are cheaper, they dont get burn in near as easy as everyone says in my opinion and i dont know about other plasma tvs but i have yet to mess mine up with burn in i am usually careful but one night i fell asleep and left it on with a dvd on and it eventually went back to the main menu and stayed there all night without movement on the screen and all i had to do was run my burn in protection feature the next morning and it was all gone and you couldnt tell a thing, you may have also herd that the life of a plasma isnt very long but in another form diabolos a person i concider to be very knowledgable explained that plasmas had a very long life span of around 20+ years i believe. im not saying to buy one im just saying if you see one in a store that looks good dont hesitate to concider buying it also im not saying that dlp lcd and crt are bad either my only problem with dlp is that you have to replace the bulb every couple of years otherwise i love them i cant say anything bad about crt either except for the screen being smaller than other types of tvs and the size and weight and the only disadvantage i see with lcd is that the colors arent as crisp as other tvs such as plasmas becuase i have read many reviews about lcd and plasma all of them said that plasma did have better picture once again im not saying buy plasma im just saying i dont think its near as bad as everyone keeps saying it is. i wish diabolos would get involved in this form and help me out with the facts on plasmas becuase i remember reading alot of information he wrote in one form but i cant find it again and cant remember them exactly but anyway thats just my opinion.....once again im not trying to say plasma is better or other types are worse im just saying plasma isnt as bad as everyone is saying
Well I think I'll agree that plasmas are much better than they used to be. People that bought them 5 years ago are pretty pissed cause the screen is already dieing. "Burn in protection" - Was it a plain white screen? If so that aint good for the screen either, shortens lifespan further. If plasmas had better lifespans and not to much risk of burn in than they would be my first choice aswell. For people that dont know PLASMA gets hot, hense the higher bun in risk.
Oh yea i know im gonna need vga but i mean what wil the monitor output 720p? kus i know the resoloution is higher than what 720p is so what will it be...that the only thing i need to know THANKS
Logik666 i am glad that you agree some what to my post about plasmas i will also agree that plasmas arent burn in proof and that they are probably the worst about burn in but as you said they arent as bad as they used to be and once again ill agree that they used to not be nearly as good as they are now i am also aware that when you run burn in protection it does shorten the lifespan, by how much i dont know but would it make a difference if it was a black, greyish and white pattern that runs across the tv
o ok i didnt know but mine does have pixel shift, all white, and signal patter all as burn in protection features
Ya i think pixel shift would be best to prevent burn-in in the first place, does it do that by itself or do you do that manually?
Hello i am new in this forum and i surely appreciate any help or sugestions i was also looking for a tv for my xbox 360 and ps3 but i am trying to save some money so i looked a this Samsung today and it looks good for the price however will this tv be good enough for xbox 360 , ps3 and movies ? Samsung txs3082w is 30" widescreen and the price is $689
@ Aroldo Yea thats a good tv for 360,ps3 and movies kus it can output 720p and 1080i and if yu are gonna get blu ray and/or hd dvd it has hdmi input so youll be good to go to watch those in 720p and 1080i...and thats a good price for that to
