I am going to rip my DVDs, VHS, and D8 videos down to my hard drive and let it be served from a linux samba mount to other pc's throughout the house. In my opinion Disk space is cheap and I can always add more space. What is the best format to store all of this stuff in.

    Thanx,
    Alan

If you are going to encode your dvds with an xvid or divx codec, id suggest using the 1-pass quality based option and set the quantizer setting to the lowest available which is 1 with the newer mpeg 4 codecs. You will get the best possible quality this way.
