Hey guys, i've been reading through DVDRHELP.com and Afterdawn for the best way to convert a 2gig DIVX to a 1gig or smaller XVID file .

When I get my newsgroup files...sometimes the video is too large and I dont want 2 or 3 gig divx files on my computer...there are 100 different ways to convert to XVID ....but I always end up losing quality and its too pixelated. I basically used virtual dub, or nan dub, and I reprocess the video and process the sound at mp3...it gets the file to about 1 gig...but the video is horrible.

Does anyone have a surefire and easy way to convert from divx to xvid easily and still keep the quality of video?

thanks and sorry if this has already been posted.

    1) XviD is a lossy compressor, so you are never going to have the same quality (even if you can't see the difference).
    2) You are reducing the bitrate by like 50%. No way you are going to do that with no noticable loss in quality.

NanDub only compresses with DivX 3 and MS MPEG-4 V2. Neither of which I would recommend.

Pixelation could be due to the fact that you are using half the bitrate, but the same resolution. You probably resize down, this will also shift the old macroblocks. Some other ideas would be to use he-aac or vorbis audio to save space and encode using x264, putting the whole lot in an mkv container (as native AVC).
