I have been using DVDDecrypter to rip the DVD to an ISO image and burning the image with Nero to a DVD-R DL. I have noticed that I only get about half of the copies to work properly (no skipping or other problems). Is there a better way of making the backups? Should I be ripping to .vob files, then re-encode before burning for better results? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Nick
When it works this is what I use DVD shrink to iso burn with Decrypter or Nero dvd shrink will integrate with nero so that is a good option right there, I like you have posted the same question in a different forum for whats the best combo and will post it here once someone responds to me. The nice thing about decrypter is it's versatility but Shrink give one click options that can't be beat so try it let me know. I have had 98% success with this combo.
If you are ripping and burning to a dual layer disk all you need to do is use iso read and the write in DVD Decrypter, there is no need to switch over to Nero unless that is your preferred program. If you are doing a single layer disk, and it is under the 4.3g limit you can also do iso read and write using Decrypter. If you are having skipping problems, then slow your burn speed down, and make sure you are using good media. Also, make sure your burners firmware is up to date. Thanks for the quick replies!!!!!!!! I have thought that I might be using bad media, but when re-burning the DVD the movie will have the same problems in the same places. I would tend to think that poor media would produce mixed results. How likely is it that the initial rip is bad? I had been using Nero to burn the discs becuase it seemed to support dual layer better (when I first started), but I don't have any real preference. DVD Shrink has generally worked pretty good for me, but the other day I noticed that it kept hanging in the same place while doing the initial analyze on a movie DVD. Thanks, Nick
Any of the dual layers I have burned have been straight Decrypter iso read and then write. Decrypter handles the layer change fine, and I have not had any playback problems. Make sure that your burners firmware is up to date. If you are doing dual layer there is no need for Shrink. If you are having problems with analyzing, this could be because of a bad disk, try cleaning it. Also make sure your DMA settings are on.
