if you had a hdmi port on your dell it would have been better(for picture quality) you can get a vga to hdmi connecter(i dont know a great deal about them, but you can check it out via google). you have an svideo port on both the tv and the computer (thats for video )so you can use that. you require only an svideo cable(you need to look at the female svideo sockets on both tv and computer and count the pin holes in them,if they have say 5 pin holes in each then you need an male svideo cable with 5 pins)this will save having to go back and change it. you will also need a cable for audio , you have an earphone jack on your computer do you have one on your tv if so you could simply use a jack to jack cable. if not you will have 2 audio in sockets on the tv one should be red the other white(for the audio to work this way you need a twin phono to jack cable)the jack end connects to the earphone jack on your computer the other end connects to the red and white connecters on the tv. so now you have your cables and they are connected you will need to set your computer to allow for a second monitor(which is what your tv is) i use vista si i will use that, click on start, then control panel.then click on appearance and personalisation, then adjust screen resolution. you will see screen 1 and screen 2, click on screen 2 and tick extend desktop on to this monitor, apply and ok. now go to your tv and you will see options say hdmi1, hdmi2,svideo(choose svideo)all being well you now have your computer on screen and audio also. with a vga cable you will still need the audio cable(but you wont need to adjust the computer)hdmi will give you audio and video in one cable, again no need to adjust the computer(but a vga to hdmi cable will only give you video no audio,so you will need the audio cable for this option also)i hope this helps, you can also type in(live football via broadband to tv)in the search banner above top center and click on go for a thread with lots more info.
