I'm a newbie to avi2dvd, having done only one conversion before.

I want to convert an avi movie (about 90 mins long to DVD5.

The film is split up into 2 parts, both approx 700mg with separate srt files.

How would I get the best quality conversion? (I'm not worried about the quickest method, just the best result.)Should I run each part through avi2DVD and then use ShrinkDVD to re-author the 2 parts and compress to one DVD5,

or should I run both parts through avi2DVD together.

I'm not sure about avi2dvd. I haven't used that program. I use dvd flick. You should be able to add both cd's to creat a dvd. You might want to check thru the settings, as there should be a setting to set the final product as a dvd5 disk.

    Thanks,rtm27.

I've just been reading another thread about the difference between transcoders (like DVDShrink) and encoders (which AVI2DVD uses)

Encoders give a much better quality result, so I will put both parts into AVI2DVD to encode into DVD5 format.

I haven't tried DVD Flick, having just worked out how to use AVI2DVD.

I was so surprised when I did a successful avi-DVD conversion--I was sure I'd do something wrong. :)

I've done a few with dvd flick. As it's also a free program, the quality is quite good from what I can tell. I have my settings customized to '4300MB', as that seems to work best for me. I keep all my dvd5 files at 4300MB.

I'm a big believer in ConvertXtoDVD. It will take the two files and convert them to fit on a DVD5 with awesome quality. You can even create menus if you want or disable menus and check sequential playback and you can join the the two movies to seemless playback.

I have used both DVD Flick and ConvertXtoDVD (both latest versions). Both work well and I still have them both in my video toolbox. However, if it's quality over speed you're after, then TMPGenc DVD Author 3 is what I suggest. Hands down better quality but a bit slow. Now it's all I ever use. It has an auto shutdown computer option so I just run it at bedtime, worktime, or whenever. Also much, much easier to use than ConvertXtoDVD. TMPGenc DVD Author 3 is not cheap (about $90.00).
