It's generally agreed that the best authoring software is Scenarist NT. However, it cause something like $40,000.

The next best is DVDMaestro. This software came very close to Scenarist NT and was retailed for $5000. Now you can get it for about $30, but you might have a hard time finding the manual for it.

You may also look at DVD Lab Pro which is similar to DVDMaestro but give up some control.

I have tried TmpgEnc authoring, DVD Lab Pro and DVDMaestro, and so for I wouldn't trade DVDMaestro for anything less.

    Good luck.

So far out of all the ones I have tried, DVDlabpro is the easiest, closely followed by DVDMaestro. As clipper52 stated, they are both very similar, so get whichever one you could can afford. If you are thinking about actually authoring movies to send to get pressed, you will need DVDMaestro though.

Sonic Scenarist is not too bad either. It is not as easy to work with as either Maestro or Lab, but it is not too hard. The $40,000 price tag makes it not worth it (I always thought is was about $25,000 and that was way too much). You can get a striped down version for about $5000, but then that would be almost worthless to you.

I just checked out DVD Archiect. This one is easy as well. DVDlab and DVDMaestro are much easier though.

Individual people will generally never buy something like this. That is why there are programs like Nero Vision Express and DVD Builder. DVDlabpro may be affordable, but I still think it is targeted towards a non-commercial professional.

Software like Scenarist & Maestro are/were targeted towards commercial production/authoring companies. They have lots of features that normal people will never use. Also, it is definately not user friendly.
