After several days trawling google (and various demo alternatives to Nero 7), trying to find a solution to my problem, which was converting divx to dvd, I got told to try afterdawn.

A quick look through the posts and it became evident loads of folks were lost trying to convert lost (pun intended) avi's to dvd!!. Well the the solution i tried(as recommended by afterdawn forum posters) was to to use ConvertXtoDVD. And it worked!!

Its fast(ish) puts chapters in and is a breeze to use.

So thanx to all you posters on afterdawn that that help solve the problems. Who knows one day I may be able to help!!

Still doesnt explain why Nero 7 is garbage though. shame cos its a good program other than the fact it doesnt work!!

    Thanx again

    Mr Mumbo.

Nero is trying to be an all-in-one suite. Those are usually bery bad. The burning engine is good and so is Nero Recode, but that is all...

Here is how to replace Nero Completely:

Burning Rom: Deepburner free + ImgBurn/DVDDecrypter
    Nero Recode: DVD Shrink
Nero Vision: ConvertXtoDVD (there are also free alternatives, but that gets complicated...)

Even though Deepburner free cannot burn DVD videos, you simply use DVD Shrink to convert them to ISO and burn with either ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter. Deepburner can burn the ISO, but you can automate Shrink to launch the others after the conversion.

Nero comes bundled with more software, but I have never installed those, so I do not know what they are. However, some are stupid things like photo viewer, media player, etc... Those you will already have.

@Mr Mumbo., I agree with you that some versions of Nero do have some "problems" but not that it is crap. If you are having problems with your Nero program then post it here so someone can try and help you.....you have NOTHING to lose.

    Hi gwendolin

my problem was speech sync gradually going out when converting three or more 40 odd minute divx avi's to dvd video using nero7. If anyone has a solution to this problem then i would be grateful to hear it.

At the start of each episode speech would be back in again but at the end of each episode it would be out by about 5 seconds. as i use nero to back up my hard drive, make mp3 albums to use in the car etc (and i paid for it) its not something i want to get rid of.

So if anyone has a solution please tell me where i am going wrong. If you need me to I will make a coaster and publish the log file.

Again many thanx for a excellent informative site.

    Hello.
That sounds interesting... Don't need to make a coaster tough, just do a simulated burn and post your burn log file. You should find it here:
    NERO 6 - C:\ProgramFiles\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log

    NERO 7 - C:\ProgramFiles\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory.log
