Lets try something simple first. Reboot in the safe mode and do a system restore. Pick a restore point when you know your computer was working well. Good Luck, Rev

    Hi jwell

I don't exactly think system restore will do the trick, as most modern malware will infect system restore files.

This is the first alternative which you can take:

Do you have a separate computer with internet connection? Do you have a portable hard drive such as a USB flash disk? Does safe mode still work on the infected computer? If so...

Boot into safe mode. Please download Combofix. With Combofix, at the download window, please rename it to Combo-fix before downloading it. Please run Combofix and follow the prompts. Understand that things like your system clock changing and your desktop disappearing might happen. Do not worry, because all will be restored later. Do not click on the Comobofix window, as it may cause it to stall. If it asks for a reboot, do it. Post the log here.

Let me know how this works out, and if you cannot do it, tell me, so that the second alternative can be put into action.

    Best Regards :D

No, absolutely not. That is, unless they are infected.

    Hey jwell

The log will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt

Glad to hear that the icons have come back. Is your computer working fine enough to download and install programs now? If so, please download Superantispyware Free and install it. Update it, and then boot into safe mode again. Scan your computer with Superantispyware, quarantine all detected items, and then post the log here along with the Combofix log.

    Best Regards :D

more fundamentally, was there anything you downloaded, opened, and/or installed shortly before the problems started occurring? think hard, because MOST infections piggyback in with something else.
