im trying to find my dvd drive in my bios (so that i can boot from it ) but cant see it anywhere , anyone know what its called thanks
You should see it as an option under the select bootable device priority section. The default option is normally floppy, then one of the hard drives. You should also see the DVD drives listed as well. What motherboard are you using and I'll try and get a screen capture for you?
new to this so bare with me , i ve looked in the bios list and the first boot device is floppy , ive tried to change that but alls that is listed is cd rom , hdd and so on , nothing related to my dvd drive , ive tried booting from cd rom but it doesn't pick up my dvd drive my mother board is AMD ATHLON(tm)XP 2000+ MANY THANKS
Firstly you have given the CPU type not the motherboard make and model. Secondly do you have more than one optical drive in the PC, if there is only one drive then it is listing your DVd drive as CDROM, this is not a problem as it is both a DVD and CD drive. When you boot from this CD drive you should see the drive light come on as the PC tries to read the disk. Have another look at the motherboard, if you have no software that will read off the info for you look inside the case. Also take another look at the CD drive light make a note of what happens and let me know how many optical drives you have. Cheers
