Well I dont know if any of you have been warned but watch out for Vivendi/Universal Studios and Symnatec Corp on Bit Torrent! Some copyright infringment letters have been sent! Maybe best not to use the Bit Torrent sites that are the easiest to find for a while!

Unfortunately you cant do much about your problem unless u could find an automated program that would open the torrent file as soon as there is a fail! Dunno of any as of yet though!

I have this same problem sometimes, mostly with files that have a high number of seeds. The problem seems to be that BT is trying to download at a higher speed than my connection can handle.

The only thing I've found that helps is to not download more than a couple files at a time, unless you are going to be sitting there to reset your modem every few minutes. There may be a way to limit your download speed, but I haven't found it yet.

I never actually thought I would have a problem with a client downloading too fast.

One extra thing i can say is if u check in Netlimiter the amount of connections u have made with Bit Torrent you would be surprised of the number of ip addresses you are connected to! That might kill your connection. On another note I have never downloaded more than 2 things on bit torrent at the same time! You are basically not supposed to! :)

@ dela, i haven't heard or read anywhere that you're not supposed to dl more than 2 things at a time.. (?)

all i can think is that in practice, i guess it isn't that smart to dl on that many diff connections at once, because as we all know, BT puts quite a lot of strain on a hard disk even when downloading just an one torrent. but then again, that's we love the BT so much =) and hey, HDD's are cheap.

hey man, nah im wouldnt download anything more than 2 at a time because it doesnt just strain the connection, can also strain the computer resources too

Hehe that's true but only if you have a really 'hot' seed. Hehe I just set a new personal record for BT .... 340KB/s. :D

I have been using one of the experimental BT clients and so far I dont have many complaints about it. I tend to leave the file open for 48 hours after completion of download to help others get the file(s) (Aint that the whole Ideas?). The major problem I am finding is that I can use the advanced mode to see how many people are downloading to me and uploading from me, which can be very interesting. I can also see other people peer downloads and I have to admit that sometimes I get seriously angry at it.

I have a cable 1meg connection no upload or download restrictions per month like some people have. But to see my own average download rate not hit over 30kb, when there's like 15 seeders on and other who are getting it at over 100kb, while somehow seriously restricting thier upload rate to 1 or 2kb.

Then again I havn't found anything better so I'd better shut up and put up with it :)

Based on the current file I am downloading:
    file size 928.20MiB
    Upload rate 124kb/sec
    Download rate 3kb/sec (oh eck)
With 93.1% already downloaded and a massive 2.3gig uploaded, I kinda think I am getting the short end of the deal.

If ur on a router then u might wanna try setting up pot fowarding for ports 6881 - 6889.

I had the same problem i was avg. around 5 download and 10-15 upload. Now I average around 30 download.

How do you set up pot fowarding for ports 6881 - 6889? Is there any other tricks for speeding up torrents as I am on a 512kb DSL with Pipex and never get speeds above 6kb/s?

simwit - Go to this website:

    http://www.overnet.com/documentation/linksys.html

It shows an example of how to seup fowarding on a linksys router(other routers should be similar.....i have a microsoft router) for a program called overnet, just change the name and the port number to the ones for Bit Torrent

all of you cry babies out there need to listen up dont use the official bittorrent release 3.3 it blows you aint never gonna get crap done with that version i have been using shadow experimentalrelease 5.8.7 and it works great i find if i set my speed on it to dialup i get the greatest speed, also it matters on how new the torrent is thats why you gotta keep up and get them as they are released so far highest i hit was 81k sec but that was downloading porn so thats why haha anyway xbox games and pc games i usually get aroun 40 or 50k on them and i owe it all to not using the official release i figure any experimental version that gives you more info than the 3.3 version works better

Hey there. I've recently started using bittorrent, so don't extract the urineif I'm being a newbie. I notice alot of you have speeds which are far higher that mine. My rate of download peaks at around 22KiB on a 512k connection running a popular download with quite alot of seeds. I ususally only run one download at a time, but I'm wondering why mine runs so slow?
