bitrate movie

    how can i improve the bitrate on my avi movie file

    Bit more info dude. what source you trying to convert to avi, what software you using etc...

    i wanna convert to dvd and im using winavi to convert to dvd>
    im just wondering is it true the higher the bitrate the better the picture quality?

    Basically true. The higher the bitrate, the closer the encoder can get to the original.
    A few points though.
    The encoder will eventually reach a point of saturation where it can't throw any more bits at the video.
    DVD has a max bitrate limit.
    You may reach a point of transparency before saturation or even the max DVD bitrate. In such a case increasing the bitrate would not result in a noticable increase in quality.
