Okay my co-worker gave me her laptop to check out and this is gotta be the strangest shit i've ever encountered. Well its a toshiba laptop with 1.5 gigs of ram and 150 gig hard drive, i initially thought it was a virus obvisiously but my geek squad software came back with nothing wrong with the hard drive, ram and there were no viruses. So now i think its a vista update issue. The problem is that it loads up fine and you get to the account screen and you put in the password and log in, but when you log in there is no desktop just the mouse, even when i try to boot up in safe mode there is no desktop just the mouse. i have gotten in to the administrator settings and stopped all services that were running and i stopped the third party programs that startup at boot up. Have any of ya'll heard of this, i think i can fix this without a restore, and she didnt create any restore points either so if i had to restore it would be a full restore. i know all of you guys are computer savvy, maybe you can help me

i have a toshiba laptop also.. this issue happened on this and my desktop pc ( custom built ) all i know is that i had no choice but to reinstall the operating system. i backuped both hard drives first pictures music etc.. then just formatted and reinstalled... i gave up trying to fix that after about 3 days... then when it happend on my laptop.. i gave it about 3 or 4 reboots and yes stopping everything from starting up.. safe mode all that good crap.. notta. so i just whiped it...

    Good Luck..
